This is a colourful KS2 Ratio Helpsheet designed as a one-page visual support sheet for pupils. It explains the key ratio concepts pupils need in a clear, child-friendly way, with worked examples, top tips and key vocabulary.
It includes sections on:
Ratio & Proportion
Explains the difference between ratio as “part to part” and proportion as “part to whole”, using coloured counter examples.
Simplifying Ratio
Shows pupils how to simplify ratios by finding the highest common factor, dividing each part by the same number, and writing the simplified ratio.
Sharing Ratio
Breaks down how to share an amount in a given ratio using a step-by-step method and a worked money example.
Scale Factor
Explains enlargement and reduction, including what happens when the scale factor is greater than 1, equal to 1, or between 0 and 1. It also includes a clear shape enlargement example.
Finding Amounts
Includes two worked examples showing how to use known ratio parts to find missing amounts.
Key Vocabulary
Defines important terms such as ratio, simplify, equivalent, share, scale factor, enlarge and reduce.
At the bottom, there is a short reminder section with useful tips, such as comparing quantities, remembering that ratios do not have units, keeping the ratio order the same, and simplifying where possible. The overall design is bright, structured and easy for pupils to use during lessons, revision, interventions or independent practice.
