This 25-slide lesson explores Judith Wright’s poem, ‘Hunting Snake’.
The lesson includes starter questions and discussions before introducing students to Wright’s life and work.
The poem is then tackled methodically, with an accessible summary to support students’ comprehension of its key ideas. Annotation prompts and questions are included for stanza-by-stanza analysis.
Students are given supportive ideas about the poem’s form, structure, rhythm and rhyme, with notes on the poem’s key themes and possible tones. Critical vocabulary is provided to facilitate high-level analysis, and comprehension questions are included for students to complete after studying the poem. Some ‘critical thinking’ questions are then provided to allow for higher-level thinking about the poem.
At the end of the lesson is an essay question, along with an example essay introduction and example first analytical paragraph.
This resource includes a PDF copy of the PowerPoint to save fonts/aesthetics, as well as an editable lesson PowerPoint (in which font spacing may need adjusting).
