Set 2 Phase 2 Phonic Sounds - N, M, I, G

This initial sounds activity helps learners develop early phonics skills by identifying words that begin with a target sound. The focus sound is displayed in the centre of the activity card, surrounded by a selection of picture prompts. Learners carefully say the name of each picture and decide whether it begins with the target initial sound. They can then mark their answers by covering the matching pictures with counters, gems or other manipulatives, or by drawing a circle around the correct images. The activity can be used independently, in small groups, during intervention sessions, or as a whole-class teaching activity to reinforce sound recognition, listening skills and vocabulary development.
