Context of the lesson and prior learning:
This will be their first lesson of Shakespeare so it is important to allow them to access the language as that will be their biggest barrier and fear

Learning Objectives: (Skills/Knowledge)
• To understand Shakespeare
• To understand the story of Romeo and Juliet
• to explore the story of Romeo and Juliet whilst highlighting the main themes

Success Criteria: (evidence of learning)
Emerging – cannot work in a group, gets distracted easily and unfocused
Developing – works within the group but does not contribute
Proficient – shows clear understanding of what is needed from them as an individual to cooperate and communicate well with the group
Confident – reflects well on what is needed from them to cooperate and communicate well and work as an ensemble as well as playing a convincing character using their physical skills.
Skilful and accomplished – has original and creative ideas working cooperatively as a an ensemble using a range of their performance skills and using Shakespearian language.

Cross curricular links: PE – Working as a team, English-Romeo and Juliet

Health and safety Issues: bags, coats and shoes at the side (make sure they are pushed over)
Make sure nothing is blocking the fire door
