A resource ideal for teaching main and subordinate clauses or for revising them as part of Year 6 grammar sessions. Included in the resource is an information sheet that introduces or reminds pupils of the difference between main and subordinate clauses, including looking at adverbial and relative clauses within subordinate clauses, alongside three different worksheets that focus on clauses.

The activity sheets can be used in different ways including using all three as part of a session, choosing a specific one depending on the focus you have or through multiple mini sessions.

Worksheet 1 - This worksheet provides sentences that have a main clause and subordinate clause in them. Each question comes with three different sentences with a main clause or subordinate clause underlined with pupils needing to tick whether the underlined part is the main or subordinate clause. There are six different questions to check the understanding of main and subordinate clauses. Answers are included.

Worksheet 2 - This worksheet provides ten sentences with a main clause and a subordinate clause. Each question prompts pupils to underline either the main clause or subordinate clause in the sentence. Answers are provided.

Worksheet 3 - This worksheet provides four examples of the same sentence with pupils having to tick which one is punctuated correctly. This includes checking understanding for punctuating relative clauses and the difference with the comma or no comma depending on where the adverbial clause is. There are six different questions to work through with answers also included.
