Celebrate National Coding Week from 14–20 September with this engaging, ready-to-deliver whole-school assembly for primary schools.
This assembly explores coding as more than just working with computers. Pupils discover how coding involves sequencing, pattern spotting, logic and debugging, while developing important skills such as problem-solving, patience, creativity and perseverance.
Through the story of Maya, a Year 5 pupil learning to create her own game using Scratch, pupils see how mistakes can become part of the learning process and how working together can help us solve tricky problems. The assembly encourages children to see themselves as potential creators of technology, not simply users.
The presentation includes an interactive Human Coding Challenge, where pupils give step-by-step instructions to a “robot”, helping them experience sequencing, precision and debugging for themselves. It also includes audience questions and a reflection focused on being clear, brave and creative.
