Year 6 Class - Ratio and Proportion in Scaling (Designing a bedroom involving 2D shapes)

Cross-Curricular Link - World War 2/Geography/Design Technology

Observed lesson on using the notation of ratio in scaling.

Pack includes detailed lesson plan, detailed PowerPoint presentation, activity sheet, killer question and mini-plenary question.

LO: To use ratio notion in the context of scale drawing.

Ensure children have A3 paper for their bedroom plan.
A3 paper for their working out or could create working column in their books.
Ensure squared paper is present for designing furniture.
Scissors - Glue Sticks needed.

Children are given a plain bedroom plan. They must use their knowledge of scale factors to convert actual size dimensions of the furniture into the scale model dimensions. Children must x100 (m to cm) and then divide the given factor.
