Turn a simple drawing into a professional-looking pattern with this visual, colourful, ready-to-teach PowerPoint lesson for Year 7 Art. Pupils learn how relief printing works, why prints come out as mirror images, and how to design a bold motif using positive and negative space. Four repeat types are explained clearly: straight, half-drop, mirror and rotation, with a tessellation slide that links neatly to maths. Short profiles of Hokusai, William Morris and Andy Warhol give pupils real artists to reference. A common-mistakes slide helps them fix patchy prints and over-inked tiles. Two interactive, hands-on activities take pupils from sketchbook to finished print, and an evaluation slide models the vocabulary that earns marks. Speech-bubble prompts nudge rather than gush. It is non-specialist friendly, works well as a cover lesson with basic materials, and builds towards GCSE Art and Design sketchbook work. Everything is editable in PowerPoint. 16 slides, about one hour, aligned to the KS3 National Curriculum.
