This lesson is for high ability KS4 students taking the Higher paper and for KS5 students. It teaches them how to use algebra to solve probability problems where there is an unknown value.

The lesson starts by using an algebraic variable in one event. Learning develops to apply algebra to two non-conditional events and then to two events one of which is conditional on the other.

There is a heavy emphasis on mini white board work to develop students ability to express probabilities in terms of a variable. There is a worksheet offering deliberate practice after all three stages of the learning.
