Warehouse Order Picking Work Task Box: a hands-on vocational work task box for secondary SEND, post-16, and job skills programmes. Students print, cut, and work through three levels on their own while you take accuracy data.
Why I made this: Warehouse and stockroom jobs come up a lot for my students, and the work is mostly reading codes carefully. A student who can read B-2-4 and not grab B-4-2 is a student a supervisor can trust. This box lets students practice the reading and the checking at a table before they are walking real aisles. The short picks are on purpose. On a real job, an empty bin is normal, and the right move is to write it up and tell someone, not to grab something close.
What's included:
• Level A: 12 one-item pick tickets
• Level B: 24 three-item pick tickets
• Level C: 24 five-item pick tickets with quantities, including 3 short picks
• 4 shelf grid mats (one per aisle, 12 bins each) and 48 item cards
• 3 EMPTY BIN cards and short-pick slips for Level C
• 1 page on reading location codes and 1 location grid page
• 3 practice pages, one for each level
• Answer key for every ticket and practice page
• Data sheet and a 10-session accuracy graph
• A plan for trying it for real at school, with a 5-item supervisor check
• Blank tickets and blank item cards
How I use it: Set up the four shelf grid mats with the 48 item cards. At Level A, students pull one item by its exact code. At Level B, they pick 3 items and check each one off. At Level C, they pick 5 items with quantities. Three bins are empty at Level C, so students write 0 and fill out a short-pick slip. Students check their picks against the ticket codes (cover codes with tape if they peek), and you record accuracy and prompt level.
Part of the Work Task Boxes series: one layout across every job, three levels, self-check codes, blank cards for your own site, and a data sheet with a 10-session graph.
