This is a complete lesson on completing questionnaires. It starts with a news video on the Tsunami and you can discuss why scientist work on trying to predict these, can they stop them? No but they can work out ways of protecting things such as power stations etc...
A power-point is embedded which goes through all the words and meanings, with a blank copy with titles etc, for students who need a bit of help with note taking.
There is a list of rules for questionnaires for you to discuss as a group and a couple of embedded videos from 'yes Prime minister' they will not have heard of the show but it shows how you can get people to agree with you through questioning (you will need to explain national service 1st if they have not heard of it). The other is in the office appraisal, when it shows what people can write down which is completely irrelevant.
The students then write a questionnaire and go around the class to collect the data and use it to make an informed decision, what problems did they encounter? Were their questions relevant etc... can they make a final judgement to answer their question using the data they collected, how would they change their questionnaire if they were to do it again...
Plenary has hidden words to pull out and the students must describe what them mean, this can be completed by having students up to the board or write in their books and share.
