This project guides Year 1 children through designing and making a 3D junk-model dinosaur toy with a moving feature. Across the PowerPoints, children explore real toys, identify materials, learn about simple mechanisms, generate and develop a dinosaur design, and safely construct their model from recycled boxes, tubes, card and other classroom materials. They investigate movement through examples such as split pins, levers and sliders, then decorate, test and improve their dinosaur. The lessons include clear teacher input, visual demonstrations, vocabulary, questioning and independent tasks. By the end, children evaluate their finished dinosaur against simple design criteria and celebrate their work. All project PowerPoints are included.
