57 Objective Questions and 10 Essay/Discussion/Project Prompts designed to accompany the video Nova: Zeppelin Terror Attack

I BELIEVE IN GIVING TEACHERS CHOICES SO THEY CAN DIFFERENTIATE LEARNING AS NEEDED

Therefore, all of the 57 objective questions are presented in four different ways:

---As multiple choice items in a reusable format (the same printed worksheet can be used multiple times)
---As multiple choice items in a consumable format (students write on the worksheets and use them up)
---As free response items in a reusable format
---As free response items in a consumable format

I like to think of the multiple choice format as the "easy" level and the free answer format as the "advanced" level.

A full answer key is included for both the easy and advanced levels of the objective questions.

I BELIEVE IN CRITICAL THINKING

That's why my Video Teaching Packet for Nova: Zeppelin Terror Attack also includes a "Level III," which consists of subjective prompts that teachers can use as essay topics, discussion starters, or student project guidance.

ABOUT THE VIDEO: NOVA: ZEPPELIN TERROR ATTACK

If you've seen this episode of Nova already, you know how skillfully it combines solid history information with a compelling narrative that will get students interested in that very history. If you haven't seen it, just run a Google search of the title to find sites where you may be able to find it as a streaming video. Some PBS titles are also available on services such as Netflix. If you prefer not to use streaming video to show it in class, you can look for it in DVD format at www.pbs.org. It may also be playing on your local PBS station -- just check the listings for the Nova series.

WHY ZEPPELIN TERROR ATTACK IS A GREAT MATCH FOR WORLD OR EUROPEAN HISTORY CLASSES

Nova is an acclaimed PBS series that concentrates on topics of both scientific and historical interest. The Zeppelin Terror Attack episodes runs very nearly an hour in length and explores in detail the German use of zeppelins against Great Britain during World War I. Raining down "death from the air," zeppelins were used to bomb major British cities. The video does an excellent job of teaching students about how WWI was transformed into a "total war" in which civilians, not just front-line soldiers, began to be regarded as legitimate targets to attack. It also fascinates my students every time I show it. This is because Nova's focus on the "how" of warfare skillfully draws the students into learning about the why, when, what, and where elements of the story as well.
