This differentiated homework asks pupils to create, illustrate and describe their own Greek Hero. We used the hero in their stories the following week but this could equally be used as a stand alone homework related to your topic.

It's Christmas week, you have ten last minute play rehearsals scheduled, a church visit and the class are so excited about Christmas that you're thinking your job is closer to that of a cat herder than a teacher right now. Take a break from planning and take a look at these two lessons for Literacy in Christmas week (let's face it, you're not going to teach five Literacy lessons this week). These lessons were used to reinforce the use of relative clauses by getting them to write a relative clause poem. The class produced many outstanding poems using this method and remarkably got really excited about our Christmas-based Literacy lessons with a hidden SPaG focus!

This is a lesson which was created to be used in Anti-bullying Week across Years 1 and 2 to help children identify what bullying is, to empathise with someone being bullied and to say what to do if someone is being bullied. I have to be honest, this is my favourite lesson in my shop. I have taught it numerous times and it has always been fun for pupils and staff! This lesson allows pupils to help the Captain get as much treasure as possible to the ship by designing a boat which will hold lots of gold (or marbles to you and I). Once you’ve explained the task, pupils draw designs for a new, weight bearing boat and explain how they’re going to test the boat to show the Captain (the teacher) how good their design is. After that, they build their model out of plasticine, test their boats in water and record the results. The winning team always gets treasure in the form of golden chocolate coins!

As Computing subject leader, I was tasked with trying and testing a multitude of apps for use on the school iPads. After testing a multitude of apps (some poor, some great) I made a full list of the best apps for each subject. This list is the EYFS group of apps for Literacy, Numeracy, programming, Design and Technology, imaginative play and a section of really useful apps for staff iPads. All apps are priced and available on iTunes currently which ensures your iPads stay current and engaging rather than becoming expensive cameras for staff!
