This is the final set of lessons accompanying AQAs Blod Brothers to support students’ hinterland knowledge and AO3. This last installment contains a source and questions for Section A and a lesson on creative and descriptive writing for Section B.

This is the third installment of the AQA LP2 Lessons that accompany A Christmas Carol’s AO3. Tis resource contains two weeks’ of lessons following on from Week 1 and Week 2. It includes review and improvement lessons, Question 4 and Question 5 Planning and writing.

This resource is the second week, looking at AQA Lanuage Lessons. This comprises 2x one hour lessons which adds to students’ hinterland knowledge of AO3 for A Christmas Carol.

This is the second set of lessons guiding students through Language Paper 1, whilst allowing students to develop hinterland of knowledge for Blood Brothers. Lesson 1 has a complete Section A and Lesson 2 Has a complete Section B.

This is the third week of AQA Language Lessons to support students hinterland knowledge of AO3 Blood Brothers. This week includes and Assessment for LP1.

Lesson objectives: To investigate the poet’s intended message to the reader. To consider the connotations of form, structure and language in ‘Hitcher’. To reflect upon emergent themes in the poem. Powerpoint for the lesson, with worksheets for pupils.

Three lessons for introducing media studies. Analysis of a short film and consideration of media tools. The final lesson requires students to story board thier own short film, using the script provided. This set of lessons was wonderful to teach and I have differentiated it for year 6, up to KS4, although this incarnation was for a low ability year 7 class. These lessons act as a great introduction to considering the use of speech, consideration of props and setting but showcases perspective and camera angles very well. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

This selection contains retrieval and inference questions based on the extract from P. L. Travers’ Mary Poppins. Inference and retrieval questions can be cut out and slipped under a Monopoly Junior-style board, to engage the children in reading skills, prior to giving them the assessment. My year 6 intervention group love this activity and don’t notice that they are working! No Mark scheme provided.

This selection contains retrieval and inference questions based on the extract from Barrie’s Peter Pan. Inference and retrieval questions can be cut out and slipped under a Monopoly Junior-style board, to engage the children in reading skills, prior to giving them the assessment. My year 6 intervention group love this activity and don’t notice that they are working!

SATs-style fiction reading paper, with comprehension questions that assess inference, definition, prediction and retrieval skills. The extract is chapter 3 of The Coral Island. This is a challenging paper and ideal for students performing at above expected standard.

A lesson for mixed ability GCSE poetry, viewing The Hero as an unseen poem. This lesson would work well as an introduction to WW1 poetry, unseen poetry or as a poetry analysis lesson. The lesson takes the context of the poem into consideration.

Fully resourced SOW for the entire novel. Lessons work alongside the chapters of the novel to work with developing reading and writing skills. There is a writing task for each chapter, with peer and self assessment opportunities for each writing element.

AQA style paper 1 and paper 2 question papers with inserts from Great Expectations and an article examining the changing attitudes to marriage. I have used this as a revision tool, taking the extract from Paper 1 and using it as Source A in Paper 2 (despite it being fiction) to cut down on reading time and to focus on developing the skills in the responses of candidates. This set is ideal for bite-size revision sessions, where students need to develop examination techniques and familiarity with the paper as a whole. These papers do not include question 1 on either paper. Papers are printable, with space for candidates to write their answers underneath the questions, to give them a sense of assessment conditions; it should also make whole-class employment for this resource easier.
