RE Philosophy KS3 Is Death the End ?

(0)
This resource explores an interesting question - is death the end ? This was originally written for year 9 and follows a number of philosophical units. The package has a power point linking to videos ( some may need watching and content carefully needs to be considered in reference to chosen audience) and with teaching notes which enable specialist and non specialist alike to guide pupils through suggested answers to this interesting philosophy question using key vocabulary, visuals and discussion ideas. Main religions are included, testimony of past life experiences and research of Dr Raymond Moody into Near Death Experiences. The unit has an assessment based on the “evidence” explored and clear essay structure is given in the year 9 assessment booklet to assist students to produce an extended piece of writing. There is also a debate lessons with guidance for etachers and pupils on creating structure for a formal debate, having different groups for the debate and giving peer feedback to each other in a supportive way. Due to the nature of this unit it is worth asking tutors in advance whether any pupils may be upset by this topic and pre-warning pupils themselves in the lessons running up to this unit.

This introduction to Sanatana Dharma for year 7 could be used by year 8 also or adapted for years 5/ 6. Materials are inclusive and have different activities for Muslim/Jewish/Christian students in places. The package has a quality power point with great visuals and links, clear activities and support for students and provides structure for lessons to be delivered by specialists or non specialist RE teachers. The plans give guidance and additional notes with details on key vocabulary and activities to enable progress towards the end point assessment. This is an extensive and well considered package with everything you need to advance the knowledge and understanding of your students. Year 7 Christian Elements - Belief and Ritual

This second unit I wrote for year 7 builds upon the first unit based around the 8 elements of religion. This unit explains the main beliefs of Christians and how those beliefs are shown in the rituals using bread and wine and the ritual of baptism. Detailed lesson plans enable a specialist or non specialist to explain Christian ideas, use key vocabulary and have suggested tasks to enable pupils to make progress towards the end point assessment which tests unit key terms, knowledge and understanding. Resources include a power point for each lesson, planning including details on marking the assessment and grading work, key terms sheet for exercise books, assessment log for year 7 ( including the end point assessment for this unit) and ideas for homework which can be placed on teams / virtual systems. The author has years of experience as a Head of RE working since 1995 in six different schools.

Year 7 RE Intro - 8 Elements of Religion

This clever introduction helps students to understand the essential elements of most religions. In our school we use the 8 elements as hooks to enable students to further understand and re-visit important concepts such as ritual, sacredness and symbols across different units of study. These hooks help better cognition processes and development across key stage 3. In this well received resource pack are lesson plans suitable for specialist and non specialist alike. Each lesson is based on a double of 1 hour and 20 minutes, but can easily be adapted or split. The plans show ideas for entrance activities, starters and main activities which are wide ranging and inclusive. Unit plans also highlight key terms which are part of curiosity questions and then reflected in the end point assessment. Resources and video links are on the power point. Assessment materials are in the year 7 assessment log which comes with this package. Details on how to mark the assessment and what is being assessed will enable specialists and non specialists to grade the end point assessment.

Most of the key terms students need for the OCR course plus year 10 and 11 year outline. This will make sure students have the key knowledge they need for the Islam, Christianity and Christians Perspectiveson ethics papers. The knowledge organisers can also be used as revision cards for the final few months. There are also key religious quotes from Islam and Christianity for all papers as recommended by the exam board.

Corrie ten Boom, Christian fighting for Justice

Originally a year 9 topic but could be adapted for KS3. You will need “The Hiding Place” film about Corrie ten Boom and perhaps the book “Prison letters”. Also other Corrie ten Boom books are fascinating. The film is based on the book of the same name. The presentation enables pupils to pick out important religious and philosophical themes in the film and to explore important holocaust questions, for example why were there bystanders ? The presentation also helps pupils to consider why people doubt God in hard times and especially in the light of the Holocaust, also to see ways faith gives strength to a person to enable them to have resilience. Powerful stuff !

The resources help pupils to experience some fun and festivities. You may want to get prizes, Jewish Passover plate food and other materials to build a succah (hut) - it is up to you. You can also easily download a free dreidel game outline and instructions off the internet and play the dreidel. Enjoy !!

Religious Studies GCSE revision power point - extra revision class

This power point has 16 revision sessions that were completed by students close to exam time. The sessions were topics chosen by students who wanted extra support for certain topics nearer to the exam. We follow the OCR syllabus studying Christianity, Islam and issues from a Christian perspective. There are no extra resources with the power point but we have textbooks and you can adapt the power point to suit. Some sessions were 20ish mins before school and some were after school for over an hour.
