Week 2 This lesson begins by recapping what was learned in lesson 1 (also uploaded). This lesson is based on why the Vikings had such a bad reputation. Children will learn why people thought that the Vikings were only bad, and also look at sources of information that say this. The package includes a lesson plan, activity resource and a presentation.

How did the Vikings try to take over the country and how close did they get? How have recent excavations changed our view of the Vikings? This resource consists of a history and geography lesson on the Romans. It is the first week in each subject on the topic of the Romans. In History, the children will be thinking about the term history and what it means. They will then discuss and fill in a KWL chart based on the Romans, which is a nice little assessment tool. The children will fill in what they Know about the ROmans and what they Want to know about the Romans. This provides an interest into the topic and children will hope to have their curiosities answered by the end of the topic. The L section of the KWL will be left until the end of the topic where children will fill out what they have Learned. In Geography, the children will be looking at which countries were occupied by the Roman Empire. This lesson looks at using compass skills and atlas work also, which is a great geographical skill in itself. This resource comes with both a history and geography plan, along with two separate presentations to use in the lesson. They are saved as notebooks. An introduction into the Vikings. It’s very exciting lesson as it involves role-play and physical moving around the classroom to “spy” on the Vikings. My class got a lot out of it.

Bonfire Night explained through a colourful, visual powerpoint. I have used a wide range of pictures to teach children about Bonfire Night. As I have a huge portion of EAL learners in my class, I have included simple, clear pictures that make the content easy to understand. The story is told in an interesting way, through use of speech bubbles and cartoon pictures. Easily adaptable for a younger class also. As an activity, I asked children to create a comic strip based on what they learned about Bonfire Night. For EAL or low ability learners, I have included differentiated resources and images to assist them. A Viking word bank giving some basic words and definitions needed for this topic. I laminate them and give them to the children at the beginning of the topic to refer to. Included is a PDF and a powerpoint if you need to edit.
