This fun, Great Fire themed resource includes a set of 8 activities /lessons with skills including: -Show that addition of two numbers can be done in any order (commutative) -Partition numbers -Add two different two-digit numbers -Solve simple problems in a practical context involving addition and subtraction of money -Recognise and use the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction -Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 5 times table -Find ½ and 1/4 of a shape -Find ½ of numbers by splitting them -Order numbers inc large numbers. -Literacy link: Write sentences involving days of the week The pack includes a power point with answers, student worksheets and role play cards to laminate all aimed to fit in with the topic in year 2. To make full use of the activities you will need to use the coins cards for role play but it would be better with plastic coins. One activity is also based on using play dough "cakes" from pudding lane bakery to split into halves/quarters and weighing out each half using scales. This could be used one task at a time , or later in the year/ at the end of term as a review exercise to consolidate different topics. NB: (UK Version - prices are in £'s)

Cross-curricular lesson(s) on distance- time graphs with a Hunger games theme. Links together Maths, English, Physics and possibly P.E. (could also link in with archery) Students begin to Interpret and construct distance-time graphs, looking at the stories that could be represented by parts of the graph and what type of movement the graphs could describe. This also includes a practical activity where students move around and graph their movements and opportunities for extended writing in which they describe the story that could be shown by a graph in more detail. These Estimation games are fun for all ages! Split your class into 5 teams and display the question and picture on the interactive whiteboard. Play the timer and the teams will have 30 seconds to discuss their best estimate for that question. Then take each teams' estimate and reveal the answer. Closest team gets three points, second closest two points and third closest gets one point. Other teams get nothing! Features 3 versions (1 for each term) with mixed questions - perfect for end of term fun - students will surprise themselves at how good (and bad in some cases!) their estimates are, whilst learning interesting and new facts at the same time. Tried and tested with my own classes for several years, students love it!
