A 5 lesson literacy unit based around Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The unit is aimed at year 3 and 4 and gives details of the curriculum objectives covered. The children develop reading comprehension, speaking, planning, writing, editing and SPaG skills during the unit. This is achieved through varied, fun and interactive activities.
All five lessons include a SPaG or composition starter, which is always linked to *Romeo and Juliet. *
The main activity in lesson 1 is a reading comprehension of a simplified version of the play. It is differentiated 3 ways.
The main activity in lesson 2 allows children to practise their performance skills.
Lesson 3 allows children to begin learning playwriting skills, whilst in lessons 4 and 5, they plan and write their own play or scene, based on Shakespeare’s play.
All lessons include details of how to differentiate.

This is a plan and resources for a French lesson to use with KS2. It involves children learning about French Festivals. The lesson teaches the class about six festivals e.g. Bastille Day. There is the French word for each festival, a little bit of information in English and two more French phrases linked to the festival. The plan could be used for an individual lesson, or as part of a longer unit on France.

This resource is a set of 5 painting lessons based around the theme of the sea, oceans and water, suitable for Lower Key Stage 2. The key skills that are taught include creating different tones and shades and using shapes and patterns to change the atmosphere of a painting.
There are 4 different artists used as inspiration. The children have the opportunity to work alone to practise the key skills and as part of a large group for a collaborative project. The final lesson allows children to collate all their experience and ideas to create an original seascape on their own.
The 13 page pdf lesson plans are very detailed and include a list of any resources you will need to get out the cupboards. There are also details of curriculum links and examples of work from my classes. I have included the simple 8 slide PowerPoint I used for the series of lessons, which contains examples of the artists’ work around which the lessons are based. There is also a template for Lesson 3.

This is a plan for an assembly on Advent, with a focus on preparing for Christmas. There is an optional simple PowerPoint on Advent traditions included. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute!
I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves using an anecdote about a December when you prepared for Christmas in all the wrong ways. You can use the example in the plan or use an anecdote from your own childhood. The children are then encouraged to think about how they can prepare for Christmas by thinking about others.
