Clauses and Phrases KS2

Within this lesson, it looks at how we can identify the difference between clauses and phrases and investigates the different types of clauses in detail (main clause, subordinate clause, relative clause and embedded clause). The lesson begins with a recap on word classes and then goes into identifying phrases and clauses. By the end of this lesson, children should be secure on the different types of clauses and should be able to identify them in their writing. The lesson ends with a picture to describe, allowing children to draw on their knowledge of different phrases and clauses they can use. This would be a perfect resource for a KS2 Grammar lesson or to use as a stand alone tutor session.

Different types of nouns

This lesson delves into the four main types of noun: common, proper, collective and abstract. It begins with a categories game to start and recaps on the different word classes. It then goes on to look at the different nouns in more detail, with some fun and engaging activities on each one. As well as looking at each type, the lesson also explores ways in which nouns can be used to add cohesion in a piece of writing, e.g. through the use of synonyms or pronouns. It also touches on expanded noun phrases for added description. The lesson ends with an animated picture for the children to write about, using and applying their knowledge of the different types of nouns and how we can use them to aid cohesion.

Adjectives and Adverbs KS2

This lesson on adjectives and adverbs is perfect for recapping the two word classes simultaneously and for demonstrating ways in which we can add more description to our work. The lesson will guide you through what an adjective and adverb are and why we use them in our writing. It will then lead you through some fun and engaging activities to do with children in order to practise using these word classes in their work. The lesson will end with a writing opportunity about a picture, allowing the children to apply the skills they have learnt.
