Mental Health Awareness Week is from 13th to the 19th May. Stimulate learning, emphathy and insight about mental health issues with this fiction book recommendations poster. All of the books are appropriate for young teens (Key Stage 3 pupils) and feature a comprehensive collection of diverse and inclusive books that I would recommend to any student. Each book is labelled with a particular mental health condition, which can act as trigger warnings. It’s perfect for primary school aged children or those fairly new to secondary school - there are no young adult books so this poster is widely suitable for any youngster. This is a colourful and visual A3 poster, which explains what verse novels are and gives some suggestions of what books readers can start with. All books are young adult, appropriate for students ages 14+ years, due to some of the content and themes of the books. But all are well-written, quality and diverse texts that I would recommend readily. In addition, if they are on accelerated reader, then I have made a note of this alongside the book. Verse novels have become very popular with publishers and readers, particularly over the past five years. They offer a new, original way of reading verse and poetry, so can be a great way to encourage reading for pleasure.
