This lesson is an engaging resource where the children are classifying rocks based on their properties. When we completed this lesson, we had already done a lesson on the properties of different rocks so had findings to work with already. However, you could incorporate the properties into this lesson too.
The lesson comes with the complete lesson PowerPoint and resources.
Brief structure of lesson:
Retrieval practice
Name that rock
Whole class quiz questions for property definitions
Guided practice for classifying rocks
Independent sorting and classifying rocks
Challenge questions
Extend to think about sorting into igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic
This is a great resource for retrieval practice to test what the children have learnt in previous lessons/years. I have uploaded two different kinds for two different subjects to show you how they would work in different lessons. They are easily adaptable for your own topics/subjects.
These particular resources are for:
Ancient Egyptians
Vaisakhi
This resource is comprised of a blank world map divided into 6 sections for you to cut into 6 jigsaw pieces. The idea was that the children could first see if they could correctly assemble the world map first without any guidance.
There are then labels for the children to correctly match up the oceans (blue labels) and continents (green labels).
This idea came about after playing the legendary game Linkee many times! It is a great way to test children’s knowledge of a variety of topics. It can be used as retrieval practice and really encourages deeper thinking as there could be many possibilities. It is also not limited to one subject and can be easily adapted for all ages and topics.
This resource includes an editable template as well as several examples of how they can be used in lots of subjects.
I hope you enjoy!
I have created this East Anglia introduction lesson where the children look at regions and create a key. They then identify the main counties. This lesson could be adapted to suit another England region.

Made from scratch resource, aimed to look like BBC iPlayer website. This has been used previously to describe different human/physical features in a particular region but can be adapted for any region. Children responded well to it and it was an engaging resource.
This lesson is an engaging lesson where the children are active in their learning. It is very practical and involves the use of manipulatives and challenge.
It includes the full lesson PowerPoint as well as accompanying resources.

Tidy tub labels.
I use them in the middle of each table so the children can put their paper rubbish and any other bits in there, instead of them getting up to go to the bin frequently. The tubs can then just be emptied at the end of the lesson/day :)
