I am a Head of Department (RE) in a large school. I teach KS3, KS4 and KS5. I have had additional responsibilities in improving progress and attainment in RE. I teach Health & Social Care and Life Skills. I have also taught BTEC Applied Law, Psychology and PSHE. Prior to teaching my background was in forensic psychology, mental health, learning disabilities and research/quality assurance.

An emotive and engaging PSHE lesson focusing on the affects the media can have on body image. This lesson has been observed as outstanding. The lesson aims to teach students how the media represents men and women, how Photoshop can be used to alter images and the impact of this. The lesson engages students in all aspects and encourages them to consider their opinions. I have taught this lesson with high ability, lower ability and mixed ability - it works perfectly with all students because it explore opinions and feelings in a sensitive and mature manner. Includes some videos and activities from the Dove Campaign and BBC Learning Zone (all links are included in the powerpoint).

A lesson teaching students about poverty. Can be taught at KS3 or GCSE level as part of a world issues scheme of work (see my other resources - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/leanaandrews) or as a stand alone lesson. This lesson aims to teach students about what poverty is, causes of poverty, the affects it can have and if it can be eradicated. The lesson explores Christian views and Christian charities as a response to poverty. Students have to show team work skills in the lesson and emphasis is also placed on sharing views/opinions.

Lesson 3 of a KS3 religious journeys unit of work. This lesson aims to teach students about pilgrimage with a focus on a pilgrimage to Lourdes. The lessons links to the previous lessons on religious journeys. This lesson includes a variety of activities that can be designed for individual, paired and group work. If time within the lesson there is an opportunity for students to learn about pilgrimage to Israel. The lesson has opportunities for A01 and A02.The lesson ends with a game to review learning. Students have loved this element of competition. Links perfectly to GCSE topics on pilgrimage and religious expression.

The main focus is students exploring their own journey and what their future aspirations are. The main activity is a fun and engaging activity with cross curricular links. This lesson is ideal for all abilities with levelled tasks. It is a KS3 unit of work that links to GCSE topics on pilgrimage and religious expression. Could be used for older primary school students.

BTEC Applied Law for level 3 student. The presentations are aimed to provide students with knowledge of the law surrounding theft, robbery and burglary. Examples of case law are included in all elements of each crime. This allows students to understand the law through the use of real life examples.

A KS3 Sikhism lesson on the 5Ks. This lesson can be taught as a unit of work on Sikhism or as a stand alone lesson. The lesson is quick paced and engaging. There are a variety of activities that will excite students and keen them focused on learning (e.g. market place, group work, etc). Learning is checked at various points (e.g. through a fun action game involving all students). This lesson aims to teach students about the 5Ks and how they are an expression of identity.

A KS3 Christianity lesson teaching students about sacraments. This lesson EXCLUDES BAPTISM, as baptism can be taught in one full lesson (see my other resources). This lesson aims to teach students what a sacrament is, explore the sacraments Christians take and their importance. The lesson has a homework task for students to complete based on the learning. There are opportunities for group work and individual work. The lesson is heavily differentiated for a mixed ability group. The fact sheets that students use for group work are informative and are colour coded to link to two questions on the worksheet. The worksheet is also differentiated (with prompt questions) and there are key words to support certain students.

A lesson that is engaging and fun, exploring the origins of Hinduism and key beliefs. The lesson focuses on the different Hindu Gods/Goddesses, with a particular focus on the Ramayana. The lesson uses a variety of clips to engage and enthuse. Class teachers can choose from a range of activites to direct students learning to meet the single challenging outcome. The lesson has been planned for KS3 but would be great for KS2 or lower ability KS4.

The lesson aims to teach students about the key featues of the Mosque and its importance to Muslims and other members of the community. The lesson uses a True Tube clip (embedded in the powerpoint) where a young man shows people around the Mosque, this aims to teach students that the Mosque is very relevant for young people. The final task (also to be finished for homework) allows students to understand the importance of the Mosque and why it is an important place not only for Muslims but for other members of the community. There are lots of opportunities for student involvement in this lesson.

There are a variety of tasks that focus on the atman, advaita vedanta, dvaita vedenta, samasara, reincarnation and moksha. The lesson is differentiated and students are offered a choice of tasks.
