Lesson for top set Y9 on Chemical catalysts. Includes reaction profiles and a look at the change in activation energy, the shape of the catalyst and evaluate command word exam question. 2 practicals are done in this lesson, but could be adapted to include just one, neither, or a practical of your choice. More info on the practicals I do is in the lesson.

Revision lesson aimed at a middle ability Y11 class with very little recall or hormones and hormonal control. Covers the main glands, their locations and what their role is as well as the control of blood sugar levels and diabetes. Some tasks are included to check understanding as you go. Exam questions could also be included as appropriate for your class. You will need a text book or other information source to support students with some tasks unless you expect them to have good recall of the topic.

Revision lesson on rates of reaction. Made for a middle ability Y11 class with a focus on practicals methods of measuring rate of reaction, writing a method and calculating rates. Does look at tangents and using a tangent to the curve to calculate a rate, but may need more for high ability students to stretch on this - exam questions could easily be added. Does not look at why changing conditions changes the rate of reaction and explaining this.

Revision lesson covering the basics of fractional distillation, alkanes and alkenes and cracking. Brief teaching slides covering the basics along with multiple choice questions to identify any gaps in knowledge/understanding and exam questions. The lesson is split into 3 rough sections and could be split over a number of lessons if preferred.

Revision of the topics mitosis and meiosis. Brief teaching slides covering both with diagrams, multiple choice questions to check understanding (I use mini white boards for this). Exam questions with answers for independent work and a 6 mark question. Indented as revision for a middle ability set.

Introduction or revision of ionic bonding designed for a LA class. For the practical simply ask the students to see if any compounds you have available are soluble in water, conduct as solids and conduct when dissolved. Could also link to revision of electrolysis.

Introduction to covalent bonding or revision lesson. This covers the very basics of covalent bonding, using molymods to allow the students to visualise the bonds and then getting them to draw the bonding. Designed for bottom set Y10 who loved it.

Review of observations when chemical reactions happen and a basic introduction to rates and observations we can make to tell us that the rate is different. This lesson was designed for bottom set Y10 with lots of SEN students. 2 practicals included. Could be split over 2 lessons depending on length.

Revision of the key concepts with a focus on key words. I used the GCSE pod video to help the students answer the questions on slide 2, but any suitable video could be used.

Revision of basic concepts with a focus on key words for starter and plenary. Using molymod kids to build and help visualise the molecules.

Lesson built around the summer 2018 exam asking students to write a method to find the density of an irregular object. This lesson was designed for foundation tier students. Discusses the exam question, command word and what this means and key words. Covers the knowledge that students need about density to be able to understand the topic and answer questions. There is practice for students at each stage. Finally students answer the question, look at success criteria and mark using model answer.

Lesson build around the summer 2018 exam question on chromatography. The lesson looks at the exam question, command word, key words and topic. Students are then guided through the steps that they need to be able to answer question on chromatography including: what it is how it works the method calculating Rf values There is practice for the students at each step. A method with space for explanation of importance is included.

Revision lesson of RFM build around the summer 2018 exam question. This lesson was put together for foundation tier students, but content applies to higher tier. Discusses the command word, topic and key words of the questions then walks through the information that students need to answer the question with mini white board practice questions at each stage. FInally use knowldge to answer the exam question as a class and then further question individually.

A revision lesson based around the 6 mark question on the development of the Earth’s atmosphere from the summer 2018 exam. Looks at the question, command word and what it means, identifying the topic and key words etc. Walks through the knowledge needed to answer the question, look at mark scheme and then attempt question again. FInish with extension to a different question.

This is a revision lesson based around the summer 2018 ionic bonding exam question common to both H and F tier. Covers: identifying and understanding the command word, key words and their definitions, identifying if an ionic bond is formed, using the periodic table to find the number of electrons in an atom, forming ions. Model answer included that extends to cover answers for 6 mark questions.

A revision lesson based around the s=summer 2018 exam question on crystalisation. This question was common to both H and F tier. Covers naming salts and reactants, the steps for crystalisation, naming apparatus and looks at the general mark scheme to this question.

Lesson on Le Chatelier and the effect of changing conditions and the position of the equilbrium and yield of products/reactants. Assumes that reversible reactions and equilibrium has already been taught.

A guide for the common command words in Science. For each command word there is success criteria, key words/phrases to use and a worked example highlighting where the success criteria are used.

This lesson has lots of discussion and debate. Encourages students to think about the materials that we use and how important they are to ourselves and other groups of people. Looks at the limited materials we have an how long they may last. Data task on recycling aluminium. You will need to print the information on slide 9.

Introduction to refraction. Includes often used practical task. I used a match up plenary taken from Kerboodle, so not included here.
