A lesson for the topic of Coasts. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. The lesson includes a 'True or False' recap to begin based on Longshore drift, rock type and erosion, two types of waves and stump formation; this is then followed by two main activities that the pupils must complete in order to understand how a Spit is formed and the features that come with it. Firstly, a numbered diagram with missing descriptions, followed by a worksheet with the ends of sentences missing. A word box is provided for help.

The bulk of the lesson explores the two types of waves, constructive and destructive. The starter activity of distinguishing the longest coastlines in the world will be made easier for the pupils is atlases are available, although the presentation has a large map on it to help otherwise. Spellings homework included that can be marked during the following lesson.

A lesson for the topic of Africa. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. This lesson focuses on identifying the physical features within the continent of Africa. The lesson starter is a physical features wordsearch, before identifying where they are located within the Continent. From this, the pupils will create their own 'Physical features map' (Atlas will be required), example of what a completed map should look like is included in the presentation. Short quiz plenary at the end.

A lesson for the topic of Deserts. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. In this lesson, the pupils will begin the lesson with a 'True or False?' quiz based on the previous lesson (What is Antarctica? - FREE lesson), before exploring a variety of positives and negatives of tourism in Antarctica in the main activity. Also in the lesson, the pupils will be probed to describe a number of images presented to them and potentially debate why their feeling differ as a result of the activity. The last part of the lesson involves the pupils creating a poster about tourism in Antarctica and the effect it is having (complete for homework).

A lesson for the topic of Africa. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. Firstly, the pupils will write 3 words to describe Africa (usually poor, hot etc). The pupils will be questioned about their perceptions of Africa, before being shown two maps that portray Africa in a certain way, to which they will again be questioned on whether they agree or not. The main activity of the lesson is the 'Africa or not?' game, where they simply have to write whether they believe the image is of Africa or not, the answers tend to surprise the class massively. This game is excellent for class engagement across all abilities. Towards the end of the lesson, the pupils are asked to reconsider their initial thoughts. Homework included: To give the pupils a new sheet for their 3 words to describe Africa and give them the option to change them.

A lesson for the topic of Africa. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. This lesson includes a 'tick box' learning objective sheet for all pupils to do at the start (if they can) and then again at the end to highlight their progress. The lesson starter is a recap to previous lessons learning (or general knowledge), before the pupils explore what colonisation is. The main activity of the lesson sees the pupils create a timeline of colonisation in Africa.

A lesson for the topic of Development. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. This lesson begins with a game of 'Blockbusters' based on the previous learning within this half terms worth of work (bundle), this game is excellent and I would recommend that you adapt it for other lessons you teach in the future. The main activities revolve around a 'positive and negative' table for aid, followed by a set of questions for Fairtrade. Information sheet and YouTube link to Fairtrade video included.

A lesson for the topic of Tourism. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. In this lesson, the pupils will firstly make a case for the five cities within the U.K that they believe have the most tourists visit. The pupils will then be probed to discuss reasons as to why London makes the most money from tourism in the UK, before the main activity of completing 2 choropleth maps and answering a set of questions comparing the results.

A lesson for the topic of Tourism. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. In this lesson, the pupils will begin by describing Blackpool based on the 5 images/videos they are shown, before later categorising the positives and negatives of tourism into social, economic and environmental, an important GCSE skill. Higher ability can be pushed to explain which impacts of tourism may be the most helpful and detrimental to Blackpool.

A lesson for the topic of tourism. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. In this lesson, pupils will be exploring how negatives factors can impact upon tourism. The pupils will be put into the shoes of a hotel owner early in the lesson and will write how they feel that their business will be affected as a result of the two scenarios they are put in (London Olympic Games 2012 and then the 7/7 bombings). Later in the lesson, the pupils will attempt to answer a 8+4 mark question using the example they have been given. This question could be the first time a KS3 class have attempted an 'Explain' question so a TOP TIP for structure is included on the question slide. Perhaps a teacher led example could help classes struggling with the question if that appears to be the case.

A lesson for the topic of Tourism. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. This lesson explores the HIC case of Iceland in Northern Europe. The lesson starter involves the pupils deciding on whether the image presented to them is either Greenland or Iceland. Later in the lesson the pupils will be dividing impacts of tourism into positives and negatives (social, economic and environmental). The pupils' final activity involves answering a 6 mark question using the lessons learning as the basis for the content.

Once a Deserts wordsearch is completed and the pupils are introduced to what a desert is, the pupils will complete a 3-mark 'describe the distribution question about the location of a selection of the worlds Hot Deserts. The main activity of the lesson see's the pupils complete a climate graph for Phoenix in Arizona. YOU WILL NEED GRAPH PAPER FOR THIS LESSON. Includes a homework based around the results of the pupils' climate graphs.

A lesson for the topic of Rivers. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. BASED ON AQA 1-9 GCSE. In this lesson, the pupils be creating both a long and cross profile of the three courses of the river. The main activity see's the pupils having to correctly place sentences into the relevant boxes based on the course of the river and whether it is an example of erosion, transportation or deposition.

A lesson for the topic of Rivers. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. BASED ON AQA 1-9 GCSE. In this lesson, pupils will learn about the formation of a meander and subsequently, oxbow lakes. Pupils will be drawing and labelling a diagram of a meander, completing a description of the landform by filling in missing words, before creating a 4-part drawing of oxbow lakes. Oxbow lake exam style question as a homework is included.

A lesson for the topic of Natural Hazards. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. The lesson starter is a game of 'Blockbusters' with an explanation of how the game works within the presentation, with the lessons main activity being a pop-up volcano. This activity tends to work best when stuck in the centre of an exercise book (suitable for A3 or A4 books).

A practical and fun lesson for the topic of Natural Hazards, perfect for end of term! Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. This is a 4 slide presentation to ease the flow of the practical. Be prepared for mess, use A3 sheets on tables to avoid the marshmallows sticking to them. The materials needed for this lesson are listed on the presentation (the cover image for this package). This lesson is always a winner with KS3 students. Groups of 4 work best, give time to plan before the practical exercise.

A quiz for the topic of Africa. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously used for around 20 minutes in a 1hr lesson. Completely FREE. This quiz recaps the learning from the first five lessons of the series: 1. Where is Africa? 2. Perceptions of Africa. 3. The Colonisation of Africa. 4. Population densities of Africa. 5. Physical feature of Africa. The final couple of questions are about biomes. If you have studied biomes then you can keep the questions in, if not then remove them and make the quiz out of 20/21 rather than 25. Use however you wish and enjoy!
