This is a French farm animals reading and writing activity suitable for Key Stage 2 for use with Year 3 and/or 4. I am using for my Year 3s this year. It can be used as a follow up to learning the vocabulary for farm animal and for consolidating writing numbers to ten. There are two activities using pictures of animals in farm yards: Match the Description to the Picture which could be done as a whole class or paired activity. There are three descriptions. The descriptions list the animals in the picture and the children have to say whether it is description A or B. The second activity is to Write a Description of the Picture. There are three versions: mild, medium and spicy for different ability levels. This activity also helps the children practice identifying and writing numbers. Please leave feedback if you like it!

An enigmatic tiger invites himself in and eats and drinks everything in the house - from the food in the cupboards to the water in the taps. The enchanting story for young chidren by Judith Kerr translated into French.

The story of Chicken Licken in French. One day, a chick thinks the sky is falling in when an acorn falls on his head. He decides he must go and tell the King. En route he meets other animals who join his quest. A simple tale for the IWB which teaches the French words for farm animals and includes plenty of repetition and colourful graphics. Ideal for KS1 or KS2 children.

Traditional tale on ppt of The Runaway Pie -La Galette Fugitive - adapted for use with Key Stage 2 children. This is similar to The Gingerbread Man. A galette is a traditional pastry pie enjoyed at Ephiphany. The story teaches new vocabulary and focuses on the teaching of prepositions. The story of Eric Carle’s the Very Quiet Cricket in French. Useful for both KS1 and KS2 Year 3-4 learning the French greetings. Suitable as a lesson starter or could be acted out.

A story about washing day featuring vocabulary about clothes. Madame Mopple pegs her washing out on a windy day and it blows away and disappears. Children can find the missing washing stuck in the trees in her garden. Useful as a lesson starter for teaching KS2 French clothes vocabulary.

La Grande Crêpe : The Runaway Pancake Story in French . Useful for both KS1 and KS2 in the lead up to Shrove Tuesday. The story is entirely in French. Use it as a lesson starter. The children can be split into groups to act out the story or it can be used as a whole class play. I have included a bundle of resources including a vocabulary sheet, the play script with parts for four groups of children and a gap fill homework.
