A LEVEL HISTORY THE REIGN OF ELIZABETH I LESSON 4 - THE NORTHERN REBELLION
This is the fourth lesson for the Elizabeth I section for the A level unit on the Mid Tudors and Elizabeth. It considers the Catholic threat to her religious settlement with a specific focus on the Northern Rebellion.’ The lesson is taught through using a range of activities and key terms necessary for success at A Level, and can be taught using any A level approved textbook (although textbook not necessary for this lesson).

ASSEMBLY; LESSON; QUIZZES; WORDSEARCHES AND TIMELINES FOR VE DAY
VE Day on May 8th. It is suitable for primary and secondary school and contains:
An assembly/lesson - the first part of the ppt is an assembly containing images/clips/explanations about the significance of VE day and the aftermath of the war (approx 20 mins). If it is used as a lesson there are tasks incorporated in the 2nd part of the presentation to support building on writing evaluative answers (in this case weighing up the consequences of the aftermath of the Second World War). The lesson will take approximately an hour to teach, but students may need time to complete the work for homework.
A VE Day Quiz and discussion opportunity - useful for a tutorial or a history lesson. The quiz is on a ppt - so can be delivered to the whole class at the samr time - it is followed up with a discussion about VE Day.
VE Day timeline - this timeline contains 20 key events of 1945 leading to victory in Europe. Each event is on a separate sheet and contains an explanation and a colourful image - will need space for 20 sheets of A4 to go around the classroom.
VE Day wordsearch/quiz - can be used as a starter or an extension activity.
An alternative lesson - was Dresden justified or was it a war crime? Using sources and extended writing.
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT IN WHITECHAPEL
This power point contains the first 3 lessons in a scheme of learning for the historic environment in Whitechapel. It is part of a 25 lesson scheme also available. It contains activities; sources; and the resources to go with the lessons.
This can be used without the text book and is therefore useful if you have to share a set of books.
Please note that the third lesson is a video lesson - so avoid this if students are not good at taking notes from documentaries.

EDEXCEL GCSE HISTORY RUSSIA DEPTH STUDY REVISION LESSONS
The two power points contain approximately 5-6 lessons (depending on lesson length) worth of revision materials and practice questions for the GCSE Russian depth study. Each includes content; explanations of question types; model answers and activities with writing frames to enable the students to obtain a really strong grasp of the requirements of this paper.
A LEVEL DEMOCRACIES AND DICTATORSHIPS IN GERMANY. KT2 LESSON 2 NAZI REVOLUTION PART 2
This is the second lesson of the second key topic for A Level democracies and dictatorships in Germany. It is the first part of an investigation into whether or not there was a Nazi Revolution in 1933-34. It allows the investigation into the Gleichschaltung and the significance of the Night of Long Knives.
Activities are built into the power point.

COMMUNISM VS CAPITALISM
This is a second resource (first one Atomic Bomb) that I have made for a year 9 SOLbut can also be used for GCSE.
It would take 2x1 hour lessons to deliver.
The first hour is about the situation in 1945 in Europe and an introduction to ideologies, The students are required to demonstrate their understanding of communism and capitalism through matching statements and images to the correct ideologies.
The second hour is a differentiated empathy game where the students take on the roles of characters in the USA and USSR and discuss their situation with each other filling in a grid as they go.

BASELINE ASSESSMENT IN HISTORY FOR YEAR 6-7 TRANSITION
This resource contains 2 baseline assessments and two mark schemes for history transition from year 6-7. The first test examines knowledge and understanding, and tests students on their knowledge of historical methods and the Second World War (KS2 topic). It is fully differentiated and examines recall and key second order concept understanding.
The second assessment is a skills assessment which evaluates students’ ability to use source materials. They are required to demonstrate key skills such as making inferences; comparing sources; assessing reliability. There are a wide range of written; pictoral and photographic evidence to evaluate on the papers testing all of their skills as well as written sources.
They are accompanied with mark schemes and guidance on performance.
I use these tests to inform planning and differentiation for the year.
MAKING INFERENCES FROM HISTORICAL SOURCES AND GCSE PRACTICE QUESTIONS
This lesson was created to support lower prior attaining students grasp the concept of making inferences from sources. It teaches the skill through modeling and repetition. It was created to support learning to master the first question on paper 3 of the EDEXCEL GCSE History specification, but can be used for teaching inferences at any age and on any paper.

A LEVEL CIVIL RIGHTS - MALCOLM XAND BLACK POWER
This bundle contains 4 lessons which form part of the A unit on civil rights. They consider the impact of Malcolm X and black power and require students to look at how much effect black power had on civil rights. The lessons contain various activities to extend students including a debate; regular discussion; evidence gathering and end with an exam-style interpretations questions.
Duration: 4 hour and homework
WHAT IS HISTORY? TRANSITION WORK BOOKLET
This booklet complements the scheme of learning on ‘What is History?’ also available. It can also be used as a stand alone resource. The work booklet focuses on the skills needed for a successful transition from Year 6 to 7 in history and considers the discipline of history through sources; interpretations; chronology and other second order concepts. All of the necessary information is in the booklet/activities/spaces for students to write. This is a very useful resource either to use in class or for students working from home or for holiday work.
Duration
6 x 1 hour lessons/independent learning.
The booklet contains 34 pages and can either be used as a hard copy or online.
GCSE 9-1 MIGRANTS IN BRITAIN WORKBOOK AND SAMPLE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
This resource is a 79 page workbook (space for answers included) which is aimed at helping students understand the assessment requirements for the new EDEXCEL Migrants in Britain breadth study.
It contains:
A course outline
The EDEXCEL generic mark scheme for reference
Instructions on how to answer each question type with explanations of the AOs and how to gain the marks for each
A sample answer for each question-type with commentary on where the marks are gained
Practice questions for each question type (8 for questions 1 and 3, and 4 for questions 2; 4 and 5/6)
A glossary area where students can record key terminology with definitions to help maximise SPaG marks
This can be used as a single document to keep all assessments together and it addresses the lack of sample questions available for the new option. It can also be used as evidence for predicted grades (or TAGs if that becomes necessary).
Printing costs can be reduced by either sharing with students online, or by removing the pages for writing and asking students to write the answers in their books.
A LEVEL THE MID-TUDOR CRISIS. LADY JANE GREY
This lesson is suitable for an A Level Tudor unit of work. It uses both contemporary sources and interpretations, and is therefore suitable for all boards and all units. It fully resourced, and can be used with any examination board approved text book. It contains a range of varied activities and clips all designed to maximise performance at A Level.

A LEVEL - WAS THERE A MID-TUDOR CRISIS? COMPLETE UNIT OF WORK
This bundle contains 14 A level lessons (approximately 22 hours duration) covering the whole of the Mid Tudor Crisis. They have been planned to meet the requirements of either AQA Unit C; OCR Unit 1: The Late Tudors; or EDEXCEL Unit 1B - use the appropriate questions and tasks. This unit can be taught with any supporting A Level officially approved text book, and is a fully resourced; detailed set of lessons which gradually build up to answering the question: ‘Was there a Mid-Tudor Crisis.’
Tasks include individual; paired; group and whole-class tasks, and are varied thus developing the students ability to evaluate both interpretations of history and contemporary source material, both vital for success at A Level. There are regular opportunities for examination-style practice, and the flexibility for individual teachers to add or delete activities/content as appropriate. There are also a number of links to key documentaries to either watch in class (would extend 22 hour duration of unit) or for students to watch at home, to extend learning.
KEY STAGE 3 THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION LESSON 7
This is the seventh lesson in an 8 lesson scheme of learning for key stage 3 on the Industrial Revolution.
It involves research into how the social conditions in the cities during the industrial revolution aided criminals and made solving crime very difficult for the police. Students are required to consider a variety of sources to reach a judgment in an extended writing task. All sources and the writing frame are included within the power point for copying. This could also be used as a GCSE resource to support the teaching of the historic environment on the crime and punishment unit.
No text book is needed.
A LEVEL END OF TERM QUIZ FOR YEAR 12s. THE EARLY TUDORS
One hundred questions in 60 minutes.
This quiz can be done individually; in pairs or in groups depending on the size of the A Level class. It enables students to revise the content of the Year 12 course through competition, and is fun as an end of term activity. I often give prizes to the students who score the highest, although I have never had a 100% success yet!!! The questions are challenging and require 1 word/one sentence answers.
Answers are included for self-assessment.
This resource assesses and consolidates student knowledge while they are having fun.
THE GUNPOWDER PLOT AND BONFIRE NIGHT SAFETY ASSEMBLY
This assembly is suitable for key stages 1 and 2, possibly 3 if you use the longer clip. It lasts between 20 and 30 minutes (depending on which clip you use). It is a fun interactive assembly which tells the story of the Gunpowder Plot and then involves a fun quiz to test recall and to get the children involved in the story. It links the plot to bonfire night and ends with some tips on firework safety.
GCSE HISTORY REVISION - SOURCE UTILITY. SOURCES BASED ON WEIMAR AND NAZI GERMANY DEPTH STUDY
This lesson has been created to prepare students for their GCSE mocks and public examinations. It is the third lesson in a set of skills lessons which helps them revise and master source utility questions. The lesson starts by explaining how to get full marks on a source utility question, and then solidifies student learning through AFL modeling and repetition. This lesson contains material based on the Weimar and Nazi Germany depth study (USA Conflict at home and abroad also available). It takes about an hour to teach and enables students to practice their source skills.
MARY TUDOR OR 'BLOODY MARY?' A HISTORIOGRAPHY
This is a detailed historiography lesson which interrogates the evidence for whether Mary Tudor really deserved her title ‘bloody.’ It takes about two hours to teach and tests skills and knowledge. It can be used for Unit 1C of the AQA A level unit 1C or any other unit which covers this topic. It could also be useful as an AO4 lesson for GCSE students.
INTERPRETATIONS OF RELIGIOUS CHANGE UNDER EDWARD VI
This lesson focuses on considering historical interpretations of religious change under Edward VI. It takes about 2 hours to teach, and can be used for unit 1C of the AQA A level history specification. It can also be used with boards covering similar topics.
RENAISSANCE MEDICINE WORDSEARCH AND QUIZ
This wordsearch tests student recall of key facts about renaissance medicine and is useful as a starter/plenary or end of term fun revision activity for students studying medicine through time at GCSE. Students have to find the answers to 15 questions and then locate the words in a wordsearch.
