An introduction to Urbanisation
victoriabennettvictoriabennett

An introduction to Urbanisation

(2)
Urbanisation is a concept often misunderstood by Geography students. It refers to the increasing proportion of a nation’s population that is living in towns and cities, rather than the countryside. It is often as a result of large inequality between the standards of living in rural and urban areas in developing countries. This lesson explores the recent boom towards urbanisation and introduces the key terms associated with urban growth, as set out in the AQA spec A GCSE Geography curriculum. This lesson could easily be delivered at ks3 as it sets the foundation for GCSE content. free Geography Themed Christmas card KS3

(2)
The exchange of christmas cards is a long held tradition in and around December. Most people are fed up of getting the same old types of festive cards, so why not make a Geography themed one where the recipient also learns about how another country in the world celebrates Christmas? You can be sure that these will take pride of place on any mantlepiece or classroom display! This resources was originally designed for Ks3 years but can also easily be used for Ks2 in the juniors section of Primary School as the instructions to complete are clear and simple. Students will need access to an atlas or the internet to research their chosen country’s flag , country outline, and christmas traditions. If you have focussed on teaching a particular country or place this term you can easily adapt this card deisgn for that place. Students cut out readily available impages and festive themed borders to apply to their design, inside and out. They can write a normal christmas message or letter to Santa in the middle of the card as normal. Suitable for absolutely any ability and will keep your little cherubs busy in those lessons in December. I would love to see any example you have done! please post photo’s in the comments section. P.S Don’t forget to check out my 2 other Geography Christmas reources; Geography Advent Calander and 3D Geography Christmas Tree. Oracy in geography: discussions around COVID Lockdown

(1)
This structured talking exercise can take place between small groups of 2 or more people. Each person rolls 2 die to be directed to co-ordinates on a grid which lead to a question or discussion point. Most questions are intended to be reflective and make connections between geographical understanding at GCSE level ( years 9-11) and the current pandemic lockdown and social distancing measures. This encourages students to form opinions and make wider connections with their geographical knowledge. It is appropriate for a classroom, or distance /home based learning and could be done with a parent or carer.
