Times Tables Snakes and Ladders

(3)
Times tables can be a tricky maths skill to teach because of the understanding required of the relationships between the numbers and the amount of maths number facts students are required to recall in learning their 2x to x12 times tables. Rote learning can mean children recall their times table facts but have no idea what the relationships mean between the numbers. We have found that the best strategy is continued practise through game-play. Our students really enjoy this snakes and ladders multiplication game and ask to play it again. We have included division facts also on the game boards to help students understand the relationship between multiplication and division. We have included instructions on how to play in the pack and colour and black and white versions of the game boards, so you can print the version you prefer. We hope you and your students enjoy this pack and please let us know if you have any queries on eeducationhelp@gmail.com.

Endangered Animals Student Research Booklet

This endangered animal pack was used for a Geography unit and we found that students were really engaged in researching their chosen endangered animal and presenting their findings back. This pack would best serve students in grades 3 to 6, due to the research required for this project. We recommend students use the internet or separate animal fact sheets to answer questions on their endangered animal. This pack covers the following topics for your students: 1. Location of continents and which continent or continents your endangered animal lives in. 2. Unique features of your endangered animal and how these help them to survive. 3. Identifying predators and prey of your endangered animal. 4. Learning the terms herbivores, carnivores and omnivores and identifying which category your endangered animal belongs in. 5. Discover the environmental threats facing your endangered animal. 6. Finding out how many of your endangered animal is currently left on earth. 7. Explaining what is being done to protect your endangered animal. 8. Discussing what would happen if your endangered animal no longer existed. 9. Comparing and contrasting humans with your chosen endangered animal. Engaging Education is based in Australia, so we have outlined in the product download all of the Australian Curriculum outcomes we believe this pack meets, from grades 3 to 6. However we feel this pack would meet curriculum outcomes in other English speaking countries also. Thank you for purchasing this product, we hope your students enjoy it. Times Tables Dominos

Do your students struggle with conceptual understanding of their times tables? This Dominos pack can help by having students match the equivalent times tables sum, the array, the repeated addition and the sum total, which should help your students with visualising and remembering times tables amounts and aiding times table recall. We have students compete in teams to see who can match the dominos the fastest to add an additional challenge to the activity. Note: These Dominos start at x2 sums and go up to x10 sums for all times tables. We haven't covered x11 or x12 tables because of the difficulty of fitting the arrays for these times tables on a small Domino card. However, we may attempt it in the future if there is the demand and provide a free upgrade to existing purchasers. We hope you enjoy using this product in your classrooms. Please let us know if you have any queries and email us at eeducationhelp@gmail.com.

This pack was created due to a shortage of resources available for teaching about Uluru. Uluru features in lots of Australian Curriculum content descriptions and yet there does not seem to be many resources available, so we hope you find this pack useful. It covers the location, make-up and size of Uluru, along with activities on the history of the rock and why it is considered sacred by Australia's Indigenous Australians. Transition Words Writing Pack

Do your students struggle to use transition words/text connectives well in their writing? We found our students tended to repeat the same words at the start of their sentences, which made their writing repetitive and a bit dull. However when searching for teaching resources to help with this, we found that lots of lesson activities provided a long list of transition words. This can be a bit overwhelming for students in terms of deciding which transition words are best for a particular style of writing. Therefore this pack suggests 12 persuasive transition words you could use for persuasive writing, 12 informational transition words appropriate for information reports and 12 narrative transition words for engaging story writing. In this pack we have provided: 1. a transition word student handout, 2. transition word wall cards for displaying on your classroom wall, 3. cloze activities whereby students have to decide the best transition words to fill in the gaps in persuasive, narrative and informational writing samples. 4. a writing fix-up activity, whereby students are given samples of boring persuasive, narrative and informational writing, where the same words have been repeated at the start of each sentence. Using the transition words lists provided, students re-write these samples using a variety of transition words. We hope that you find this pack challenges your students to produce more lively and engaging writing, through guiding them on how transition words can be used effectively for different styles of writing. Times Table Snake Game

We love using games in the classroom to help teach times tables and hopefully your students will enjoy this too. This game is really easy to make-up and play. Students just need a counter for each player and a paper clip for the spinner board. Each player begins at the start point on the game board and spins a times table sum on the spinner board. They need to find the answer to the sum they have spun and move to the next place on the game board that shows the answer to their sum. The winner is the first student to reach the finish line. This is quite a fast paced game to play, as it doesn't take many spins to work through the game board. Therefore, we have students play the game an odd number of times and the student that wins the most games is the overall winner. This also allows for a mini-lesson on odd and even numbers. Homophones Games Book

Do you struggle to find engaging activities to teach correct homophone usage? We created this pack because we found our students soon tired of the usual fill-in the correct homophone cloze activities and we wanted to create something more engaging. In this pack you will find a range of individual and partner games to teach your students how to use homophones correctly in their writing. In addition, we also found a lot of homophone teaching resources covered a large number of homophones, which was a bit confusing and overwhelming for our students. Therefore, we focused on 23 homophones in a 2 week unit and the homophones we selected are often the most commonly confused homophones. Here are the homophones students will master in each week: Week 1: your, you’re, to, too, two, it’s, its, than, then, there, their, they’re Week 2: wear, where, by, buy, bye, here, hear, see, sea, write, right. Our pack provides lots of repeated practise in correct use of these homophones, which means by the end of this unit your students should feel confident using these homophones correctly in their writing. Each lesson students begin with a homophone practise writing activity and use the accompanying student guide to help them. Then we have created a range of activities for student engagement and homophone understanding, such as crosswords, sentence roll and write, create your own game board, boggle, word searches and many more. In addition to correct homophone usage, these activities also teach skills in use of alliteration and adjectives, vowel and consonant recognition and editing skills. We hope you and your students enjoy using this pack! If you have any queries, please email us at eeducationhelp@gmail.com.

Words Their Way Anagrams: Letter Name-Alphabetic Spellers

(0)
Are you using the Words Their Way spelling program in your classroom and looking for new ways to help your students complete their spelling sorts? This pack is for students spelling at the Letter Name-Alphabetic stage of the Words Their Way spelling program (the red book, published in 2009). We have found that students enjoy the challenge of anagrams to practise their spelling words. While they attempt to correctly arrange the mixed-up letters to correctly spell their spelling words, they are also focusing on learning particular spelling patterns and how spelling rules are applied. In addition, we have included a word sort (which is encouraged by the Words Their Way program), to help students sort their spelling words by their spelling pattern. We love the Words Their Way spelling program because of the focus on word sorts by spelling pattern and the deeper thinking and understanding it encourages of particular spelling patterns. We have found it to be very successful because students learn at spelling stages that are developmentally appropriate for them. If you are interested in finding out more about this program we recommend reading Words Their Way and the accompanying books for each spelling stage, which provide the spelling lists for implementing this program. This pack should be used with the word sort spelling lists for the Letter Name-Alphabetic Spellers stage of the Words Their Way program (this is the red book, published in 2009). Our worksheets begin at Sort 6 through to Sort 50, as Sorts 1-5 are beginning consonants sorts and so it is not possible to create anagrams for these first five initial sorts. Please note that we are working on creating anagram packs for the remaining spelling stages of the Words Their Way program, so you will be able to have this activity available for all spelling levels of the program. We hope to have this published soon.
