Students are to write down the definitions of hard and soft engineering. Using page 77-79 choose three hard and soft engineering techniques. Explain how they work, advantages of the technique and the disadvantages of the technique. Students then answer the exam question: describe the advantages and disadvantages of different engineering techniques. To end students choose one engineering technique that they have described this lesson and must evaluate (give reasons) why they think this is the best method to protect a river from flooding, an example is given to help support students.
