Teacher resources for a 90 minute lesson on the main principles of judicial precedent including stare decisis, ratio decidendi, obiter dicta, binding precedent, original precedent and persuasive precedent. Contains a powerpoint and worksheet. Suitable for courses at level 3 including A level law, Access to HE and business law modules . There is a student copy and teacher copy of the worksheet with answers. The worksheet is designed to accompany the Youtube clips on the topics created by e-lawresources and students will need to watch the videos to complete it. The 5 question starter on the power point relates to appeals in criminal courts. This can be changed if students have not yet studied this. The lesson should take approx 90 mins. There are suggested timings in the powerpoint at the end of the slide. In addition to the starter, there are 3 tasks and a plenary. Printing requirements 1 A4 sheet double sided per student. There are separate classes on hierarchy of the courts, ways of avoiding precedent and advantages and disadvantages of judicial precedent.
