The resource booklet covers the basic principles of balancing chemical symbol equations for IGCSE/GCSE Chemistry. It’s a task that I have found over the years students of all abilities find challenging.
I have essentially provided a workbook for the students that include the key rules and principles for balancing equations where they are invited to go through the rules and then attempt some basic equations where these rules need to be applied. I have also duplicated equations so that students can compare unbalanced equations with the ones that they finally balance for comparison.
I have then included more complicated examples for the students to complete by way of extension. Finally there is also an extension worksheet for students to identify the elements and compound referred to in the balanced chemical symbol equations to enable students to recall or identify the names of these elements/compounds based on their chemical formula.

Students write their answers directly into the booklet The booklet will be a very useful revision resource on this topic once completed.

Finally I have included solutions to all the tasks set in the booklet at the end.

The resource is designed for IGCSE/GCSE Chemistry but is also relevant to Key Stage 3 Chemistry where introduction to balancing chemical equations can be covered as well as identifying elements and compounds from their chemical formula.
