Anyone who teaches in a school kitchen knows the importance of that end of term or semester deep clean. Then there’s the health & safety aspects, hygiene compliance, equipment maintenance, pest prevention, readiness for the next term, the list goes on!

One way of ensuring our students fully understand the requirements of working in the kitchen and the privileges it comes with is to get them to assist with the end of term/semester cleaning - those that help properly tend to have more appreciation for the kitchen and the equipment provided for their use.

There are TWO checklists included in this file - one for the junior/middle schoolers and one for the seniors/hospitality students. Both require the kitchen areas and equipment to be checked twice. Students can work in pairs (or over separate lessons) to clean their allocated bays/work stations and work their way through the checklist, making notes of any issues, breakages or equipment that has walked out of the kitchen (probably to be found in a staffroom somewhere around the school!). These step-by-step checklists will make the end of term/semester kitchen cleaning lessons a breeze!
