  • left
  • next to
  • off

Learners cut out a rainbow ball and position this on each image, labelled with the x15 prepositions listed above.

Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for children in the early years, years 1 and 2 as well as older learners needing to revisit/explore these prepositions further.

Preparation
Each learners needs the four sheets, a pencil, scissors and a glue stick.

How to use this resource
Learners write their name on sheets 1-3 (left side) and the number date (top, right). Learners cut out one rainbow ball at a time (following dotted lines) and place this as the label for each box image indicates. Some rainbow balls will need to be cut to best show the prepositions, for example ‘behind’ and ‘under’. See ‘Answers’ (page 4) for clarification of this.

Resource Details
Pages 1, 2 and 3 (top half only)
There are x6/x3 pictures all showing the same image (of the box) with a different preposition label underneath.

Page 3 (lower half only)
Learners cut out one rainbow ball at a time and place/cut/stick this to best show the preposition (labelled) for each box.

Page 4 - Answers
Answers are provided as a ‘guide’, however these may vary for some prepositions, e.g. ‘beside’ can be ‘either’ side. Your learner/s should be encouraged to explain their thinking.

Suggestion
Giving learners access to a real, 3D box and ball (to scale of images shown) is recommended to explore before working on this cut/stick activity. Having access to these real objects should also help make clear how an object (ball) looks when placed (partially) behind the box.
