This resource is a short (8 page) children’s storybook in PDF format which aims to educate children between the ages of 5 and 7 on issues of environmental change happening with the UK.
Summary of the story:
Otis the Orangutan has come from the forests of Sumatra in South East Asia. He is quite pessimistic when it comes to environmental change – he has seen the damage that has been done to his home. Beetrice the Bee is more optimistic – even though she too has seen environmental change happening in her home in the UK. Throughout the book, she takes Otis on a journey, explaining why he should be positive about the future.
The book asks the children a question on each page to prompt them to think about these issues. Associated projects could be developed such as making a bee house in the school grounds or planting wildflowers.
It was created by 6 students at the University of Exeter.
There is a linked audiobook on vimeo.com.
