GCSE MEDIA STUDIES TASTER DAY LESSON OR ACTIVITY DAY DOUBLE

This resource was created for a 90-120 minute slot during the final week of the school year/ activities week. However, it can be easily taught as a:

-Options Taster
-Intro to Media concepts for Years 7-8
-A refresher of key concepts for GCSE Media students.

The lesson comprises of fun tasks that develop the students knowledge of 4 key areas:

-TAKE 1:Genre and Sub-genres
-TAKE 2: Codes and Conventions
-TAKE 3: Mise-en-scene
-TAKE 4: Camera shots and angles

There are also ‘Talk like a Cinephile’ terms to bolster media literacy as well as cool facts about the movies and the Movie Industry.

The resource includes a link to two fantastic resources form ‘Into Film’ (in the notes section of the Power Point, a variety of audio/visual stimuli from movies that are age appropriate/ enjoyed by the age group and a tutorial on camera angles and shots.

NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW. Each lesson is laid out as I teach my own class but I have added notes at the bottom of some of the slides e.g. on the Media Teaser, to aide teachers. All lessons are developed with differentiation, assessment/challenge as well as engagement entrenched heavily within all my resources. Moreover, constant reference is made throughout to the selected Examiner Media.
