This is a full unit on Introduction to Poetry (5 lessons) which can be used with students who have a strong level of French (A Level students, GCSE students choosing to do French A Level, adult students…) but can be adapted to different levels.
I have used it at the end of the year after exams to do something a bit different and during cross curricular weeks (connections with English, Music, Arts and History).

Detail of the lessons (each lesson can be covered 2 teaching sessions)
Lesson 1: La poésie (what is poetry, vocabulary around poetry, analysis of the format and content of Chansons d’Automne by Paul Verlaine)
Lesson 2: Victor Hugo (his life, analysis of Demain, dès l’Aube, extension: Le Dormeur du Val by Rimbaud)
Lesson 3: Calligrammes (origin, discussions around La femme au chapeau by Guillaume Apollinaire, exercise on Il pleut by Daniel Brugès or Il pleut by Guillaume Apollinaire) - lesson Art/French
Lesson 4: La poésie dans/et d’autres arts (le rap - La Belle et le Bad Boy by MC Solaar, le slam - Grand Corps Malade, singers/poets? - Stromae) - Lesson Music/French
Lesson 5: Assignment - (various options: translation of English poems into French (poets inspired by Verlaine and Rimbaud and by the Romantic movement), translation of a poem by Prevert into English, draw/write your own calligramme, write an analysis of a French poem)

Files included: Powerpoint presentations for each lesson, booklet for students
