What are ‘Sound Baskets’? I hear you ask. ‘Sound Baskets’ are baskets that are filled with common objects that begin with the Phonic sound we are learning or have been learning in class. We are going to gather small items around the classroom and playground that begin with the phonic sound we are currently
focused on. We can also pick objects that have the phonic sound within the word. Some items can be applied to more than 1 sound.
Items like chairs and tables that can be seen in the classroom could be drawn instead.
The sound labelled baskets can serve as a visual representation of the sounds being covered in class. The baskets can be taken out for sound reviewal exercises on a regular basis and/or students could explore the ‘sound baskets’ further during their free play time. Your efforts will surely pay off however as the observation skills of your young learners develop further. In
pursuit of filling their ‘sound baskets’ their knowledge of sounds will be consolidated upon.
