Solving Linear Equations | Year 8 Maths PowerPoint Lesson

This lesson takes pupils from one-step equations through to equations with brackets and unknowns on both sides, using the balance model and inverse operations throughout. It is a ready-to-teach PowerPoint scaffold for an hour-long lesson on solving linear equations. Fully worked examples are shown line by line, including equations with negative and fractional solutions, and there is a dedicated slide on the four most common errors. Two interactive tasks are included: a six-question solving relay with answers, and a spot-the-error task in which pupils diagnose a mistake and then write one of their own.
