Hi, I’m a Spanish native speaker and I have been an MFL teacher in the UK for 5 years. We started using Gianfranco Conti’s EPI approach in my school and I made this unit using his MARS EARS method.

This unit is ideal for KS3. It has 16 lessons and it includes 4 sub-units on talking about the future in 3 different contexts: school and studies, jobs and holidays. The sentence builders cover:

  • Qué te gustaría estudiar en el futuro? Quiero/Me gustaría/ Voy a estudiar + range of subjects and opinions
  • Qué te gustaría ser en el futuro? Quiero/Me gustaría/ Voy a ser + range of jobs and professions
  • Dónde te gustaría ir de vacaciones? Quiero/Me gustaría/ Voy a ir + range of countries, people and transports
  • Qué vas a hacer en tus vacaciones en el futuro? Voy/Vamos a + range of infinitive phrases, places and opinons (va a ser + adjectives)

The lessons are differentiated for higher and lower ability. Each sub-unit applies the full MARS EARS sequence and develops fluency in the 4 skills (with an emphasis in phonics) and go from introducing the vocabulary and grammar to testing the skills. They also include regular homework.

Each lesson includes a variety of engaging activities and are ready to go (from starter activity to plenary/game) or be adapted to your classes. Some activities include: mini white board translations, faulty echo, jumbled up sentences, gapped translation, narrow reading and Listening), bad translation, delayed dictation, etc.

At the end of the unit there is a speaking challenge and a writing challenge that combine the 4 sub-units and can be used as assessments, as well as revision materials.
