This is a 2 hour long lesson planned for a year 7 mixed ability class as part of their 'Integrated Humanities' lessons. It was part of a scheme of work on suffering, but this could easily be used as part of a Buddhism scheme of work for KS3.

The lesson contains a vast array of differentiated tasks, resources and links to video clips. Non-specialists have taught this lesson as well as RE specialists which shows that is is clear and easy to use.

Please see below for the learning outcomes. They have been split into 2 to allow for people teaching this over 2 lessons rather than a double.

Lesson 1 learning outcomes

All
Understand who the Buddha was and how his life changed over time.
Most
Explain what the Buddha learnt about suffering and how this affected his life.
Some
Evaluate why the Buddha is still seen as an important person today.

Lesson 2 learning outcomes

All
Understand what enlightenment is and how the 4 noble truths link to this.
Most
Describe how someone could use the 4 noble truths in their life.
Some
Evaluate why other religions might deal with suffering differently.

I would really appreciate some feedback if you choose to use the lesson.
