Kodu - The Complete Guide

Kodu - The Complete Guide

I've been using Kodu for a while now, and decided to pull everything I have together for this starter pack. Kodu is great for the new curriculum as it allows pupils to code and programme a game in real time, seeing how their programming affects the game instantly. In this pack I have included 2 units of work, a beginner and a more advanced level, as well as lots of bits to go with it. For anybody new to the programme, or to computing, this should be a great way to get going. Any questions about it tweet me @alwayscomputing

KS2 Computing planning 2015 - new mastery curriculum - mainly scratch

KS2 Computing planning 2015 - new mastery curriculum - mainly scratch

This is computing planning covering the new curriculum computing objectives. We follow a mastery curriculum. This planning was used in year 5 and also adapted for a year 3 class. It is mainly planning explaining how to use scratch. It will need adapting for your class but should help as a starting point. The topics being covered in the planning are space and Ancient Greece but it can easily be adapted for any topic. I have also included my flip chart which includes a few diagrams to help- but may not be overly useful. Any questions- please ask. Thank you

Kodu Independent Learning Cards - UPDATED

I have created a set of 8 independent learning cards to be used with the program Kodu. These are designed for pupils to pick up and explore on their own to develop their own programming skills. The cards consist of 5 possible games the children can create, and 3 interesting world maps. They also include a QR code link to a video guide on how to make the game. **The QR codes had failed so this resource has been updated to ensure they are working**

Scratch Games Project for Year 7-9

Scratch Games Project for Year 7-9

Save the Beetle and Crab Cross are two simple but challenging games that could be used as a starting point for teaching Year 7-9 students various programming constructs e.g. Forever loops, IF conditional statements, use of variables etc. The package includes both games and two powerpoint worksheets that takes students through the development life cycle - analysing the games, creating algorithm, making, testing and evaluating their own game. The tasks include stating the success criteria and peer assessment opportunities.

Learn computing with Scratch 2

Learn computing with Scratch 2

This is a resource that supplements teaching the Computing curriculum. These 30 videos are very short, approx 1 -3 minutes each, but make up approximately 6 lessons worth of content. Rather than being a difficult learning curve, I have put together a superb resource that will enable you to competently introduce basic coding concepts to your students in easy to digest video. The tutorials cover the very basics in making a child friendly mini monster game, up to the more complex code later on. Upload the videos onto your VLE or save on the school network for students to access them. The game can be demonstrated, copied and edited here: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/16490720/ Scratch 2 has been developed by the famous Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab. It is very different to the previous version of Scratch because it is now cloud based and students create and store their work directly in the cloud.
