Ancient Egypt archaeological artifacts lesson.

Ancient Egypt archaeological artifacts lesson.

This is a fantastic lesson to get practical. The photos should be printed and laminated and then hidden in some manner. Preferably, hidden in sand to become a true archaeological dig, however they could also be hidden around the school or even just distributed throughout the classroom. Children will find an artifact, draw it, guess what it was used for and then use research or Google reverse image search to find what the item actually was. Makes a brilliant practical lesson with many possibilities. Note: All artifact images have been collated from a Google image search in order to make reverse image search accurate. Consequently, the copyright of these images remains with the individual or organisation.

St. Valentine's Heart Glyphs- Addition /Subtraction Problem-Solving Worksheets Presentation EYFS/KS1

This is a fun problem-solving activity for St. Valentine’s Day as an introduction to using glyphs in the shape of whole and half-shaped hearts to work out addition and subtraction sums. Aimed at: Reception/KS1 Content: - 12 Slide PowerPoint Presentation - 3 Addition Worksheets - 4 Subtraction Worksheets - Answer Sheets Start the lesson by asking students if they know what hieroglyphs and/or glyphs are and who used them and why they were used instead of the number system we use today. Slides 3-4 The presentation lesson begins by briefly explaining how the Aztecs and the Mayans used hieroglyphs/glyphs to represent numbers and then the class have a go at working out the numbers. Main lesson Slides 5 – 13 The lesson goes on to explain using whole hearts and half-shaped hearts as glyphs and then using these symbols to solve addition and take away sums. It includes whole class activity and detailed examples of how the students work out the answers. Remind the students that the number of half-shaped hearts tells you how many whole hearts to take away. Students can use different methods to work out the problems, for example, if the students see 7 whole hearts, they add them up to make 7 as one whole heart is equal to 1. For subtraction, if the children see 7 whole hearts and 4 half-shaped hearts, they hold up 7 fingers and then fold down 4 fingers to take away the 4 half-shaped hearts. Consolidation There are three worksheets for students to add up the hearts and four worksheets on taking away. Answer sheets included. File Type: PowerPoint Presentation and PDF Thank you for visiting my store:-)
