'Giving to help others' Assembly

'Giving to help others' Assembly

‘Giving to help others’ (http://givingtohelpothers.org) primary school assembly pack is an age appropriate presentation developed by teachers for teachers and it is linked to the KS1 and KS2 PSHE curriculum. Founded by charity Team Margot Foundation in partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant, ‘Giving to help others’ introduces primary school children to the concept of giving blood, platelets, bone marrow, stem cells and ultimately organs so that this type of conversation becomes the ‘norm’ rather than the exception. Although the children are too young to donate, the hope is that they go home and tell their adult loved ones at home and within their communities that they are able to help others now. The assembly pack is free and easily downloadable from the website givingtohelpothers.org. No pre-work is required because the PowerPoint presentation includes teacher notes to compliment the short animated video alongside a series of questions to help the children’s understanding. There is also text available that can be sent to parents / carers either before the assembly or afterwards in a newsletter. If preferred, the ‘Giving to help others’ assembly pack can also be given within the classroom. The delivery of ‘Giving to help others’ takes approximate 20 minutes. Please note that a new module on Blood is currently being developed for Year 6 and it will fit in with the STEM Statutory National Curriculum, as well as touching on the PSHE KS2 Association Programme of Study. It will also have strong links to the English Curriculum as well as Science and PSHE. New modules will be added annually to the ‘Giving to help others’ education programme.

New Starters Gift Pack - Reception Children

New Starters Gift Pack - Reception Children

I have created these packs for the children starting school in September to have over the summer. Please see the cover image for the finished result. The packs I made include: A letter outlining what is in the pack (I stuck these on the front of the bags) a Summer Challenge for the children to do over the summer (working on fine motor skills, fastening buttons, sharing stories etc) a pack which has a poem about our school routine (you can adapt!), space for pictures of the school and staff a small letter for the parents which can be included in a gift given to open on their child’s first day of school (my gift included a mini chocolate bar, tissues and tea bags and I wrote on the front 'dear parents of… please do not open until Tuesday 4th September) a small letter to be included with a little pot of play dough (for children to work on their fine motor skills and pencil grip over the summer) To go with these resources, I bought some paper bags, brown envelopes (for the parent gift), play dough pots, chocolate bars, tea bags and tissue packs. These can be sourced pretty cheap on amazon. The TES preview shows my work in a different font - it is actually saved in comic sans. I use pre cursive font in my class, but I know that not everyone does! :-)

Electronic Teacher Planner/Mark Book - Free Evaluation Version

Electronic Teacher Planner/Mark Book - Free Evaluation Version

This is the Free Evaluation version of the Electronic Teacher Planner/Mark book spreadsheet. The Full paid for version available at: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/electronic-teacher-planner-markbook-11754149 is a full teacher’s planner book enabling you to replace your paper based record book. It enables you to create a colour coded timetable (and will automatically generate a blank timetable with the appropriate number of period per day), a week by week lesson outline planning sheet, a register for each class that records attendance, performance and behavioural information upon each pupil, homework and test scores. The registers will rank the pupils according to assessment criteria, absences and upon test scores. The class analysis page will give detailed information upon the number of lates/tardiness, discipline issues, forgotten books, no homework, incomplete pieces of work and work graded excellent, good, satisfactory and poor. Schemes of work can be created and reports written upon individual students. Print outs of each class can be used at parent consultation evenings and as a record for SLT. Cover lesson instructions can also be created. I have used this spreadsheet in an ongoing developing form for the last 17 years and haven’t used a paper based planner in that time. The spreadsheet does require the use of macros and so they need to be enabled in excel, see the help page in the spreadsheet on how to do this. Please note this spreadsheet will not run on Mac versions of Excel, it will only run on PC versions of , due to incompatibility issues between Microsoft Office on the 2 different platforms.

Whole School Socratic Questioning -display or mobile

Whole School Socratic Questioning -display or mobile

Really useful when extending students’ thoughts about a subject and equally good during observations when you need to show you’re extending students’ thinking by analysing more deeply. For the mobile: print it off in colour, cut up, attach the image of the brain at the top of the mobile, hole punch the question tags and attach them to their specific red banner. Or just use it for a display that is near your board so you can refer to it repeatedly in lessons. Suitable for all year groups and all curriculum areas.
