NEW OCR B Enquiring Minds Syllabus Year 9 12) The Impacts of Climate Change WITH ANSWERS

NEW OCR B Enquiring Minds Syllabus Year 9 12) The Impacts of Climate Change WITH ANSWERS

This lesson is designed as a group-based lesson for students to create case studies for their folders. The groups focus on different case studies; a surplus of water in the UK, a deficit of water in the UK and Tuvulu suffering from climate change. The idea is when they are complete to take the three best examples and create a fact file for each student. The textbooks I use is the OCB textbook and the Hodder one(page 56-57) for the OCR B syllabus. The lesson begins with the students assigned to groups. Each activity carries a points system for behaviour management- students can lose or gain points. The team with the most points win a reward at the end of the lesson. The settler (seen opposite) encourages the students to answer a 3 mark question using SEE analysis. The main is there to guide the students. ANSWERS are included. The starter is a keypad conundrum whereby the students need to use the phone key pad to work out the question and to shout the answer for 5 points, The ANSWER is include in the notes on the PowerPoint slide. The mini-plenary activity for higher ability learners is to answer the source-based question: Describe how the UK’s climate will change in the future. Use information from maps B-D in your description. [4] There are ANSWERS which can be peer assessed on the following slide. The main activity is to produce group concept maps on the three case studies listed above. Each team has different role cards (attached) that they complete within the group. The aim is to create a detailed case study using the template and be able to convey this back to the class through the development activity of group geographical hot seating. There is a mini-plenary of group charades for bonus points. The plenary is another mystery activity in the form of famous faces to work out the question and to give the answer. This ANSWER is included in the PowerPoint slide in the notes section.

Essay Writing: Survival & Rescue

Essay Writing: Survival & Rescue

Compare and contrast! Here are two true stories of survival and rescue. With detailed guidelines suggesting how to proceed, the student will read the texts, choose an essay topic from several suggested, take notes, organise those notes, and write an essay. This assignment will take at least one week to complete. Stories: Tracks In The Bush An Australian ranch-worker goes missing, and three Europeans, along with six blacks, trek through the bush to rescue him. The tracking abilities of the blacks consistently astonish the narrator. He also describes the intense natural surroundings and the challenges, on a human level, that are faced by all involved. The Marvellous Ice-Drift of Captain Tyson This early attempt to reach the North Pole failed. The voyage nonetheless left its mark on history when the captain and crew were forced to abandon ship and live on an ice floe for 196 days in the middle of the Arctic winter. German sailors, an American cook, and a group of Inuit faced deadly conditions together. Under the leadership of Captain George E. Tyson, not one person perished. Note: To the best of my understanding the use of the word ‘black’ to refer to the indigenous peoples of Australia is preferable to them to the word ‘Aborigine’. Thus, the original term has been left unaltered in the text. If I am mistaken and have caused offense, please let me know! TIP! This may be a good choice for a student with an interest in outdoor adventures such as hiking, camping or rock-climbing.
