Mira 4 Verde: Module 1: Vocabulary Matching Exercises (Foundation)

These simple yet versatile matching exercises are made from the vocabulary used in module 1 of Mira 4 Verde. They can be used as starters, extensions, plenaries, homework and revision. They are also great for measuring progress when used as a starter and a plenary in the same lesson. They can also be colour-coded / traffic lighted to provide instant feedback as well as a focus for assessment revision. I always let pupils choose whether they want to write the answers in in English or the Target Language. Matching with lines never works! I have had great feedback from pupils when using them and hope you will too. Please let me know if you find typos / mistakes.

Lesson Covers - Activities during the holidays - aim is that students are able to use infinitive structures (I like to sunbathe, I love to visit museums etc.) and that they understand that infinitives must follow opinions in Spanish. This lesson works best if your students have already started the topic of holidays and have already covered IR in present tense, accommodation vocab, transport vocab as well as how to from verbs in the present tense. See my other lessons on holidays if you need ideas for above! :) Lesson includes: Differentiated objectives with starter activity. Activity 1: Option of a short assessment (answers provided so students can peer assess) based on vocabulary given to be learnt for homework from previous lesson (vocab on holidays). Activity 2: Introducing activities in Spanish (infinitive structures). Option of treasure hunt / translation activity for students. Activity 3: Differentiated translations using infinitive structures. More able students to show off knowledge of present tense verbs. Final activity: Two options. Option 1 - AQA style speaking role play. This guides students through how role play works, students prepare it and then perform it. Option 2: Writing task (differentiated) - students write about where they go, where they stay, what they do etc. Review: Team bubble snake to finish.

KS3 Spanish Holidays Present Tense Revision What I like to do on holidays

This lesson covers: activities to revise using the present tense in Spanish, based on the topic of holiday activities. It is best if students have already covered transport, accommodation, countries as well as how to form present tense for regular AR, ER and IR verbs in Spanish - knowledge of tener, ser, ir and jugar is also necessary. They will need mini whiteboards for this lesson too. Lesson includes: Differentiated objectives with starter activity. Activity 1: Option of a short assessment (answers provided so students can peer assess) based on vocabulary given to be learnt for homework from previous lesson (vocab on holidays). Activity 2: Review of how to conjugate verbs in present tense using three step process. Activity 3: Team work using whiteboards. Students create sentences in teams and score points for how well sentences are extended. Instructions on slide with sentences to translate for teams. Activity 4: Two options - Option 1 - Speaking based on AQA photo card with questions. I have prepared 'preparatory slide' with key vocabulary for students (based on the photo they'll talk about) to get them ready to write and then speak about photo. There is also an option for peer assessment on slide. Option 2 - Writing option based on topic of holidays. Opinions and connectives grid to be given to students when they do this. Lesson Covers - Based on topic of holidays - aim is that students are able to use a variety of verbs in present tense to talk about what they and their friends like to do on holidays. A review of how AR verbs work in present tense, then guides students through conjugating ER and IR regular verbs in present tense. Irregulars Ser, Tener and Jugar are also included. A roleplay is also included based on AQA GCSE style speaking exam, as an option for students to demonstrate their understanding of the present tense as well as practice using vocabulary based on holidays. This lesson works best if your students have already started the topic of holidays and have already covered IR in present tense, accommodation vocab, transport vocab as well as how to from AR verbs in present tense. Activity 1: Option of a short assessment (answers provided so students can peer assess) based on vocabulary given to be learnt for homework from previous lesson (vocab on holidays). Activity 2: Review of AR verbs and three step translation process. Then applying this knowledge to translating / conjugating ER and IR verbs in present tense. Focus on 3 irregulars. Grids are provided that can be handed out to students. Verbs are also displayed on ppts. Activity 3: Differentiated translations - done as relay (instructions on ppt.) to practice use of present tense. Final activity: Two options. Option 1 - AQA style speaking roleplay. This guides students through how roleplay works, students prepare it and then perform it. Option 2: Writing task - students either re-draft what they have written so far on holidays or start from scratch about where they go, where they stay, what they do etc. Review: Pyramid review to finish.

Research project (Motivational triggers) for KS3 Spanish - Buen Viaje (Holidays) (AQA new spec)

This is a research project lesson (or two lessons really) that I created for my year 7 Spanish students. The writing example can be easily adapted if more structures are to be added. The idea is to promote independent learning via research. Students have to research information about the place that they would like to visit (any place in world really but I encouraged to visit Spain). Students decide on the task and start researching relevant information about the chosen location using their iPads/ Chromebooks. At the same time they create a poster or a travel brochure with pop-up images (!!!) about the chosen location. During the second lesson they distribute the writing task bullet points in-between the members of the group and complete a piece of writing as per success criteria and model answer. In the end they stick their written notes (or attach them) to their poster /travel brochure. The whole process takes about 2 lessons and is perfect for the end of the topic as you can incorporate all of the structures / vocabulary learned during the term! Note: the writing example is oriented on the revision of tenses studied this year, holidays, weather and location vocabulary. Please let me know if you have any other ideas on how this project can be implemented. If you still have some time left you can enjoy few games I have inserted to simply have fun during the (possibly) last lesson of the year.
