End of Term Quiz June 2018

End of Term Quiz June 2018

My students loved this quiz - particularly the headline writing and music intros round! 5 rounds of general knowledge questions suitable for year 6 and above. Film and TV, Children’s Literature, News Headline picture round, royal wedding, and a music round with clips from YouTube linked Make sure you freeze the screen or hide the video. All the inbetween slides are included too - team names, swapping papers, answers, marking and handing in. I have provided an answer sheet for students to complete, but they could also do this on spare paper if photocopying is an issue. So long as you have the PowerPoint, you’re good to go. That means it would also fill a cover lesson you’re thrown into at the last minute! Also check out my previous years’ end of term resources. They’re all 20% off until the end of term :) Enjoy!

Stage 3: The student writes a written RESPONSE to the teacher’s comments about the ACTIONS required to reach the next stage. Bee Phonics Fun Phonics Game

Bee Phonics Fun Phonics Game

Bee Phonics is a great tool to help students master reading. It contains eight variants of a phonics board. Four of the variants contain writing lines. First, students say each sound of a word very slowly and then they read the whole word quickly. Once they’ve done it, they get a nectar point. They need to collect at least 9 nectar points to win. I’ve created a couple of versions of the nectar points and the boards where students place their points. The file also includes phonics tiles with blends, digraphs, trigraphs and other letter combinations. This means that you can create lots of different words using them. Lesson Planning Template

Lesson Planning Template

This is a quick little template used for creating slideshows for lessons - they are very useful as they are colour coded, the more you use them the more the students learn what they should be doing at each colour - They also know how far into each lesson they are. These are useful for lessons in which the students do more - activity based lessons as opposed to High Content, note taking ‘Chalk and Talk’ lessons. I find them most useful for KS3.

Unseen Poetry - Establishing Content!

Unseen Poetry - Establishing Content!

This engaging and interesting lesson enables students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to establish the content (e.g. the subject matter, poet’s key messages, and surface/ deeper meanings) of previously unseen poems. In particular, they define and understand each of the key features of content, practice identifying them in poems and analyse their effectiveness upon the reader. The lesson utilises a range of tasks, that require students to be both independent and collaborative learners. It follows this learning journey: -Defining and exemplifying each of the features of content through a group card-sorting activity; -Discussing , understanding, and practicing some of the skills and techniques needed to initially explore a poem for content; -Considering the ideas of interpretation, inference, surface/deeper meaning, and textual evidence as important mechanisms for exploration; -Applying their understanding of the features of content and the skills needed to find them through a jigsaw activity; -Self-evaluating their own learning in the lesson. Included in this resource pack are: -A well-presented, thorough, and informative, whole-lesson PowerPoint presentation; -Content features cards for the card-sorting activity; -‘Establishing Content’ worksheet for the development task; -Copies of the poems ‘Two Scavengers in a Truck…’ by Laurence Ferlinghetti, ‘Nothing’s Changed’ by Tatamkhulu Afrika, ‘Hitcher’ by Simon Armitage and 'Island Man’ by Grace Nichols for annotation (both freely available online); -A comprehensive teacher guidance form/lesson plan to assist delivery. Resources are provided in both Word (for easy editing - find in the zip file)and PDF (to prevent formatting issues between computers). All images in this resource are licensed for commercial use, and are cited on the final slide of the lesson presentation.
