This reading task is largely based on Studio Module 4, Ma Zone, with some additional vocabulary included. It can easily be adapted as a comparison with your own hometown if you wish by modifying the sentences about my hometown, Richmond. There is some comparative language as the focus is on comparing the two towns and contrasting features. Students use their language and cultural knowledge to establish meaning from the text and respond to comprehension questions . It provides great differentiation if you have students who need extending and challenging, as well as lots of simpler content to ensure everyone can achieve. This set of cards consists of 130 card pairs with hundreds of English - German sentence pairs in a 26-page pdf file . It is meant to be used by learners of English or German starting from the age of 11 or 12. Starting from the most basic structures such as giving personal information, it encompasses those for expressing the time, weather, illnesses, requests, permissions, suggestions, question words, German noun cases for all three articles. The cards are grouped according to the functions of the sentences: 1-30 Asking for and giving personal information for the first and second persons, and first person plural. 31-60 Asking for and giving personal information with the third persons singular, and third person plural. 61-95 Requests, Permissions, Suggestions, Commands, Future, Possibility, Obligation, necessity, etc. 96-102 Asking and answering about Numbers and amounts. 103- 120 Weather and Time. 121-130 Cases of nouns in German. All the sentences in each card are related to each other, and this facilitates learning a lot. It is up to the imagination of the teacher and the learner in what way to use the cards. They can be used individually or in pair-work for self-study, or in team games. The cards have to be printed, cut out as pairs, folded in two and glued together . Alternatively, using a thick paper in between could make them more rigid. The language pairs English - French, English - Spanish, and English - Italian are soon to be added.

The Arthur series of comics in French, help our students who are working with Tapis Volant 2 but can be used by anyone. This is no. 11 in the series. It demonstrates use of direct and indirect objects. Poor dad has lost his passport and this story shows what it is like to get a replacement when overseas. On the cover page there are comprehension questions. Sadly, I cannot upload the sound file but a teacher can read out the text. We use the this for both listening and reading comprehension. You can white out the words if you want to use it for listening and students then have the comic pictures as support.

I have designed this to support my year 7 in developing reading/ writing / translating skills. I started with the text ( pair work competition : each pupil has a different colour pen, the first to circle the translation in French in the text wins the point and it is quite visual at the end who is fastest . Great fro competition The other activities involve finding translations, matching up for lower ability and extending sentences from the given text. The last slide on the Power Point contains a writing list of bullet points ( goes with Studio 1 ’ il est hypercool’ but can be adapted for other courses. I owe Rachel Hawkes a big thank you for inspiring the Power Point slides offering differentiation when sentence building on mini whiteboards. I hope it is useful.
