I also know how little time teachers have to prepare quality resources so wanted to share great resources for teachers to have the option of using instead of creating their own from scratch.

This resource has been inspired by Alfred Noyes’ poem, The Highwayman. It provides 6 diary entries which provide different viewpoints from 3 of the main characters in the poem. There are mistakes in each of the diary entries so pupils need to work out the errors and then correct them as part of an editing task. Harry Kane has been a role model for thousands and achieved at the highest level of professional football. Two A4 pages of facts about Harry Kane provide a fairly detailed snapshot of his family members, his sporting achievements, interests and some random facts too. Design your own fairground theme park! This area and perimeter task will provide your children with an engaging activity where they will want to work out the area of each ride so they can place it in their own theme park. The task sheet provides children with different styles of area questions, some need to be measured, others with given sides and then the option of irregular sizes which will require children to create compound shapes. The children can choose where to place their rides and how the spacing of their rides is important and why area skills fit into the context of real world problems. As an additional task, they can solve the perimeter of each of their rides. I’ve completed this task multiple times with classes and every time they’ve been desperate to continue the task after the lesson.

This resource is for teaching the skill practically and uses the popular legendary tale, Beowulf as a basis for the sentences. You have a starting sentence and then the children cut the paper and insert their own relative clause where they think it should go. There are different versions to help with scaffolding the task for different ability children -with some sentences with the relative pronoun clause starters already inserted and example help sheets given too. Additionally, there is a challenge sheet which is for children to write their own relative clauses by editing existing sentences and the task to identify where the relative clauses are in the sentence.

This resource is for children who are practicing writing speech for narrative stories. It uses a Beowulf theme so there is a conversation between Beowulf and King Hrothgar. There’s two levels - Level 1 uses shorter sentences and words for children who struggle with longer passages. It also structures their ideas to get them to edit their work to include better adverbs and synonyms for said. Level 2 is more advanced. It encourages children to edit their work to include split speech and advanced the plot through actions. An additional sheet with potential answers for you to refer is provided too.
