Teach a lesson on poverty cycle (L6), and then following lesson (L7), students should watch the 40min video 'Slum Survivors&' from youtube and make notes to help them complete this task (L8). The task and level descriptors are written on the sheet. The aim was to develop empathy but also to look at causes, effects, and solutions to the poverty cycle. Given to Yr 9. Students had looked at social, economic, and environmental categorisations prior to this. Images used from a free sample of a Nelson-Thornes pdf.

This is a lesson via powerpoint which explains a hot desert climate. This is a second lesson into deserts having done a general intro beforehand. You may wish to use the red Interactions book to support this lesson. The lesson starts with students describing the location and by the end they should be able to explain too. This powerpoint includes an excellent animation (which I cannot take credit for) which shows students the air flow around the Earth.

This is an ICT research task which requires students to access a page from The Geography Site by David Robinson. (Whilst no material has been copied from this site, I was unable to contact the author to ask for permission when citing the website.) Students should choose sheet depending on their attainment. Sheets A+B should have written answers put into books, whereas students write on Sheet C. The exercise was partly designed to get students to write in full sentences. It was aimed at Year 9 students of all abilities.

Used for students to stand under when considering the future of Antarctica. The lesson is on the Discovering Antarctica website, with Sydney Suit and Laura Leaf.

This argumentative writing task should be used after having studied the validity of the Brandt Line (I used different maps from worldmapper website to help with this). It is aimed to help all abilities of Year 9 students.

The 3 posters should be displayed outside your classroom and students in groups should recreate these posters from memory. Aimed at KS3 studying weather. Instructions are on powerpoint. There are lots of different ones on TES but I thought I would add my contribution to geography level descriptors. Each level is a mountain with skills on how to reach the peak. It's a bit cheesy.

Notes under slides. Essentially, you look at the things the prevent development and aid development, and then the students make their own snakes and ladders game from it. Totally ripped from the blue Basics book. An extension is for them to write out the instructions and explain the meaning of the game.

A lesson aimed at Year 7 which is based on work from Geog.1. The lesson explores a boy from Pakistan who makes footballs and why is he trapped in this viscious circle. Students I've taught have really loved the &'What if...&'; discussion. Normally get them to discuss with person next to them for 2 mins then feedback, then move onto next one. All resources and a lesson plan and powerpoint included.

When you wish to take in their books to mark, give them a book review form, and they can use the ideas from the boxes in the guide to fill in their sheets with 2xWWW and 2xEBI. This makes them take ownership and reflect and also saves you time when marking. Tried and tested.

The powerpoint takes students (and teachers) through the activities detailed on the worksheet. The data set is found on the worksheet. Level descriptors and the task are written on the sheet. I am setting this as a practise assessment for year 7 over the half term, but could be used as a real assessment for Ecosystems or Antarctic topic. They have spent two lessons looking at polar animal adaptations by researching on the internet and looking at clips from Blue Planet.
